  1. Dream Big

First and foremost, we’re here to remind you to dream big. Don’t make yourself or your desires smaller because you’re afraid they’re too much. You may not be able to do it all. That’s a mindset you need to change before you can set out on your journey to achieve the things you want in life.

Permit yourself to dream of whatever you want, and remember that the person in charge of your future is you. Nothing is off-limits when you can dream it. Everything from booking your travel to gorgeous destinations with a premium air charter service to buying yourself a little country cottage or making it through your exams with high marks has a path from dream to reality… You just have to find it and walk that bucket list dreams road all the way.

  1. Visualize

Visualization may not be a word that everyone is familiar with, or it may sound a little hokey to you, depending on the context. Before you can set off on your journey to bucket list completion, you need to be clear about what you want. Otherwise, how will you ever find it?

Draw a mind map, create a list, get out the glue stick and cardboard, and create a vision board. Lay out your dreams. They are now becoming goals, in a way that excites you and reminds you what you’re working so diligently towards. There are no real rules for this step, except that you must clearly define what it is that you want.

  1. Create a 1/3/5 List

Another list, ugh! We know. This one is incredibly important, though. It helps you to break down the things, people, and places on your vision board into a reasonable, more bite-sized set of goals that are achievable in the short, medium, and long term. Together, these will work towards the main goal in the end.

What does 1/3/5 even mean? Well, we like to look at it in two different ways:

  • Each day, you’ll have smaller daily goals that will serve you in the long run. Break these down into small, medium, and large tasks you can tick off your list on a daily basis.
  • The second way is essentially the same as the first, just on a more extended time scale. Work out all the smaller things you’ll need to do to achieve your overarching dreams. These things will take time, as all good things do, so break them up into short, medium, and long-term goals: a 1-year plan, a 3-year plan, and a 5-year plan.

Breaking your bucket list dreams down like this helps keep your life manageable and avoids burnout or getting overwhelmed by the sheer number of things you have to handle. Fail to plan, and you plan to fail, as they say! You can’t swallow a huge steak in one bite. You have to cut it up into chewable pieces. Your goals are the same thing — best when consumed bite-sized.

  1. Stay Accountable

It’s much easier to stay on track with the hard work that lies ahead if you have some way of being accountable for the tasks you set yourself. This could mean talking to a friend, parent, or partner about your goals. Ask them to check in with you to remind you to keep your chin up and keep checking things off your list. Lean on your community and the people close to you — they want to see you succeed!

You might want to keep a notebook, bucket list of dreams, or ledger detailing how far you’ve gotten with goals, things you’ve had to add to or amend, and how far you still have to go. These words and numbers will be fuel for your fire if you’re tired or feeling a little bit low.

  1. Remember That Setbacks Are Normal

Nothing worthwhile comes easily, and nothing in life is without setbacks, small or large. If you prepare yourself for the fact that setbacks and failures will occur, whether by your own mistakes or circumstances outside of your control. You can manage your expectations as you work towards your goals.

If any obstacles are commonly associated with reaching a particular goal, you might want to devise backup plans to implement. That is, in the event that said setbacks occur. Whatever happens, remember that failure is not a bad thing but rather a chance to learn and improve.

  1. Keep Going

Action is the only thing that will turn those dreams of yours into reality. Even a little reshuffle in the right direction, if that is all your mental or physical health will allow at times, is still a shuffle closer to the dream you hope to live. Keep moving and taking action no matter what. This might mean a little flexibility, going back to the drawing board to change your plan of attack, but you can do it.
