Road Trip Itneray

1
27 Meadow Spring Dr, East Sandwich, MA 02537, USA

Day 1: Cape Cod to Rochester, NY

7 hours / 455 miles

Fleeing the Nor’easter

We left a day early in order to avoid any major snow fall from the upcoming storm. We later saw that parts of Massachusetts and New York got buried in 12-14 inches of snow. Although East Sandwich had about 4 inches, we were relieved we did lot have to drive through the aftermath for 11 hours or so.

We quickly got the car packed and got the house setup, ensuring the plants (hopefully) wouldn’t die while we were away for 6+ weeks. Fingers crossed those wine bottles worked!

Somehow we were able to fit our Peloton into the car, which was in part due to many of the parts could be taken off. We’ll need to spin off all of those holiday desserts 😂

Kevin puts the finishing touches on securing our day to day luggage and cooler.

Rochester

Rochester Airbnb

We had booked an Airbnb 18 hours before we were arriving and luckily we were able to check in an hour early.

It was located right off the highway and was close to a Weggeman’s, where we needed to do a grocery pickup or a few things we forgot.

3
Niagara Falls Observation Tower

Day 2: Rochester, NY to Perrysburg, OH (by Toledo, OH)

6.5 hours / 400 miles

We made it from Rochester to Perrysburg, with a stop at Niagara Falls! We were essentially the only ones there, where there are usually thousands of people in the summer. Had a good view of Canada, and those Canadians have a much better view of Niagara Falls than the US. Wish we brought our passports 😭😭

About 6 hours of driving. Some snow along the way and windshield wiper fluid froze over so we had to stop a few times to clean off the frozen mud from all of the 18 wheelers.

4
Perrysburg

Perrysburg, OH Airbnb

I’d call this both a cabin and a lake house all in one. Although we were on a lake, the walls were just like a log cabin. Very cute!

5
Lincoln

Day 3: Perrysburg, OH to Lincoln, NE

11 hours / 750 miles

This will be our longest drive so far, since we split up our first day into two. We left our Airbnb lake house before the sunrise and somehow lugged all of our suitcases and cooler up and down the stairs. (Very treacherous!!)

A lot of the same views going through lots of farmland. Very strange being able to see this far, whereas the east coast is much more thickly settled.

The states we are passing today include:

Ohio

Indiana

Illinois

Iowa

Nebraska (we stop here for the day)

Lincoln, NE Airbnb

Very Instagramy house!

7
Moab

Day 4: Lincoln, NE to Moab, UT

12+ hours / 850 miles

This will be the longest day of the trip by over an hour. We left Lincoln at the crack of dawn and luckily had time to make coffee before we hit the road (we’ll probably need five cups of coffee today). So far Nebraska is only farm land for miles with the occasional rolling hill. We are very excited to slow down once we get to Utah!

We drove through the entire states of Nebraska and Colorado and ended with a little bit of driving through Utah. Colorado was really cool because we weee able to see the Rockies and pass Breckenridge and Vail. When we got to Utah the sun had set and drove through VERY thick fog on a country road for 45 minutes. Fun stuff! Needless to say we were very happy to get to our Airbnb.

Close to Denver, with a view of the Rockies.

Rockies!! We were on this road back in February when we went to Breckenridge.

8
3965 Meador Dr, Moab, UT 84532, USA

Moab, UT Airbnb

This Airbnb is very on theme! First place that has a garage, sadly we’re very excited about this since it’s been in the 20s when we unload the car. When we first arrived we immediately crashed on the couch and turned on the gas fireplace after 12.5 hours in the car.

9
Arches National Park

National Park #1: Arches National Park

10
Canyonlands National Park

National Park #2: Canyonlands

11
Bryce Canyon National Park

National Park #3: Bryce Canyon

About 4.5 hour drive from Moab, we drove through a lot of fog but finally made it (this felt short compared to 12.5 hours in the car the other day). When we arrived at Bryce we saw all of the main highlights of the hoodoo landmarks including Thor’s Hammer. Try to see if you can pinpoint this in the pictures below!

12
Zion National Park

National Park #4: Zion

We didn’t have much time in Zion due to the drive to Bryce and then driving over to Zion which was about 6 hours in total. We were able to drive the canyon scenic route though which was well worth it!

13
East Zion Resort

Zion Airbnb

We’re staying in a treehouse essentially! About 20 minutes from Zion’s entrance, this Airbnb is nestled in the hills and would consider this a tiny house.

14
Grand Canyon National Park

Day 7 and National Park #5: The Grand Canyon

5.5 hours / 320 \240miles to the Grand Canyon

The drive there was very scenic! We stopped at Glen Canton Dam, where my (Meghan) grandpa had started his 16 day trip on the Colorado River.

Glen Canyon Dam (below)

We ran into some friends!

15
Kingman

Kingman, AZ Airbnb

The only part of the house worth highlighting: the heated massage chair. Also located right by Route 66!

16
Tracy

Day 8: Kingman, AZ to Tracy, CA

8.5 hours / 560 miles

Last day on the road! We were able to drive on the historic Route 66 and through the Mojave Desert.

WE MADE IT!!
