So this entry will cover our flight in and our 2 days in L’bourg. Left DFW afternoon of Dec 4. \240No joy in getting premium seats but got bulk head behind them so we could see what we were missing. Sat in middle seat and Bryan gave up his aisle seat for a handicapped man from Pakistan. He was a sweet man but had Parkinson’s and shook a lot so hard to sleep.
Got into Frankfurt around 8:45am Dec5. Took a ZED flight on Lufthansa to Luxembourg and arrived 11am. Hadabeer...... tookabus...... to the lovely Hotel Yasha,, 2 blocks from the central train station. Turkish owners with a doner kabob place next door! Yay! More on that later.
Smallest elevator ever. See pic! 2 people max and suck in. Napped out for a few then hit the streets. Headed to city center and Christmas markets. Great shopping and food. Picked up hand made cookie cutter and a Christmas tree for Rachael. Went to a chalet for tartefilette, a casserole if potatoes, onions, bacon and raclette cheese. Basically the best scalloped potatoes ever. Walked back to room in a freezing mist. Got out later for drinks at a bar down the street with great music and then a doner kabob with spicy frites at hotel’s restaurant. Absolutely fabulous!
Slept great! Got out around 10am and turned left to get lost. Literally, God bless google maps! Found the Grund and stopped into Scott’s Oub for a drink around noon. Crossed the river and took elevator up to high street. Saw the ducal palace among other historic sites. Bought Nespresso pods, stopped for more drinks then tapas for lunch around 2pm. Walking back to hotel, realized that we were only a fraction of the distance away from the Grund than we thought. This town will turn you around... and I’m good with directions! Sitting in hotel now writing this while drinking a cheap bottle of wine before we head out for late night Christmas lights. Y’all travel! It’s the best gift you can give yourself! Bonjour!
*I failed to mention this because I was afraid it would make me cry all over again (which it did) but I can’t help but do it as a remembrance. A 2 year old boy was killed on November 26 in a freak accident at the Knuedler Christmas market when a block of ice fell on him. How this could possible happen IDK. There was a memorial there for him with his picture. As a new grandma of a sweet little boy my heart breaks for his family. I can’t imagine the hole it leaves.
