Test driving this new travel journal, guess I’m now a travel blogger. Hope you enjoy the pics and a little commentary of our travels.

Heading east on the first of many legs. 4 days in NYC, staying in the Williamsburg area in Brooklyn. Cool, hip section of town and our hotel has amazing views of Manhattan and the Brooklyn bridge. 10-15 minute walk to Rebecca’s apartment. Time for a little rest, apparently I have a 5k “run” tomorrow morning.

And so it begins

View from the hotel. Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Started the morning running in the NYC Pizza Run - a 5k fun run around Fort Greene. Rebecca and her friend Claire were earning money promoting Hidden Valley ranch, while running 5k. I decided to tag along and needless to say we stood out.

The run involves 3 laps around the park, with runners downing a slice in NY pizza after each lap. Didn’t set any speed records, but we had a blast and they attracted a lot of attention.

Find someone who looks at you the way pizza looks at ranch.

We ended the day at the Riverside Park on the Hudson.

The William Vale

Another beautiful day in the big apple. Spent a great relaxing day with Rebecca clothes shopping and enjoying a great dinner, eating too much, laughing too much and enjoying the moment.

Another slow moving, easing into this vacation day. We drove into Manhattan, to drop rebecca at work and we spent some time in the 9/11 memorial and museum nearby. Dropped into Five Iron to play a round at the old course St Andrew’s.

Broke 90 staying out of any pot hole bunkers. Blake Griffin was in the booth next to us playing a round of golf, he’s tall, very tall. No pics or autographs, not my thing to ask.

Finished the evening at Giginos near Battery Park for great Italian food with a view of the Statue of Liberty.

Back to the hotel to catch the end of the Giants come from behind victory over the Padres. East coast time is killing us.

Travel day to…don’t want to get ahead of myself.

Spent the morning having some brunch with Rebecca and Claire at a little spot in Brooklyn. Gotta say, I really like the area she’s living. A little too much hustle and bustle for an old man like me, but a great place for da youts.

Heading to JFK, for a trip across the pond.

Adios for now…tomorrow, bon jour.

If it’s Tuesday, this must be Belgium. Since it’s Thursday (I think), this must be…Bayeux.

Landed in Paris, made a quick swing to catch a glimpse or 2 of the Arc de Triomph, as it has been transformed for a few weeks.

Check out: http://www.paris-arc-de-triomphe.fr/Actualites/L-Arc-de-triomphe-Wrapped-Paris-1961-2021 for a little scoop behind the bubble wrapping. Looks really cool upfront, as I was making circles through the roundabout.

On to Bayeux, west of Paris in Normandy. Slow evening in the town as we get adjusted to the time change. Quaint little town, known for Calvados - you can look it up (bought a bottle to bring home). Off to Snoozeville population Me.

A little behind, so I’ll start backtracking.

Took a stroll to another country - Vatican City.

First stop the Vatican museums and the Sistine chapel. No photos in the chapel, so you’ll have to take my word (or don’t), the artistry is amazing. It’s impossible to grasp the talent and true genius of the artists.

Next stop - St Peter’s basilica. Not sure the photos will do it justice, and to say it’s immense is an understatement.

We were able to get a tour of the necropolis where the tomb of St. Peter resides. No photos allowed, but the tour is completely underneath the basilica, and follows a maze of tombs and mausoleums dating back to the first century.

Back to the basilica, the art work is glass mosaics on the walls, and statues of various types surrounding the interior.

Long time on our feet, for the fourth or fifth day, so it’s time for siesta and a glass of wine.
