#15: Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants: our Greek adventure

In 2005, I began a long distance love affair with Greece after watching Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. It has been at THE top of my bucket list since.

Thanks in part to a generous gift from my Dad and Sandy last year - \240THANK YOU!!! - on Wednesday, we all boarded a plane, bound for Athens.

At some point, we think we flew over the Swiss Alps - the view was amazing; the mountains went on forever.

And there may have been a few sisters shenanigans.... \240Probably not the last.

We were excited that Glenn’s son, David, would be joining us for this leg of the race, but alas - the travel curse claimed another victim. \240He missed his connection, had to be rerouted through Spain, but finally arrived about 8 hrs past due.

While waiting for David’s arrival, we went in search of food, as we were all starving.

To our good fortune, the first place was closed and the second one that we stumbled upon was amazing! We had so much good food, and a true authentic experience.

Beet & goat cheese salad - Glenn and I loved it!

We had so. much. food.

And great wine; this has been our favorite, by far!

The restaurant was really cute, with both indoor and outdoor seating.

In a food stupor, we all went back to our apartment and crashed (we’d been up since 4:15 to catch our plane, and everyone but Mckenna and I were still fighting jet lag).

David finally made it and awoke us from our naps. After catching up, we discussed whether to keep our dinner reservation at 7:30 - one that Amanda had made months ago, due to its popularity.

We thought about bailing because we weren’t very hungry, but the restaurant was known for its views, and David was hungry since he’d missed out on lunch.

We decided to go.

We Ubered to the foot of the small mountain on which the restaurant was located, and then debated between the 15 minute uphill walk or the cable car.

The divas, aka the boys, opted for the cable car, while the girls chose to walk, in hopes of working off a little of lunch.

Although the views of the city on our hike up were stunning......

They didn’t compare to the views from the restaurant:

It was a great photo op and Instagram worthy.

Amanda and Taylor treated us to an amazing dinner, with great food and wine.

We enjoyed a leisurely dinner, watching the sun set and the city lights come alive.

Several times I found myself overcome with emotion, as I looked at our beautiful surroundings, with the beautiful faces of those I love so much.

I can’t decide if the food and wine were as amazing as I recall, or whether everything tasted so good because of our setting, but whatever the case, our first night in Greece was better than I ever imagined.

It was magical and a night I’ll never forget.
