#19: Birthdays, Beaches, & Quads: Day 3 in Santorini

We began our 3rd day in Santorini with a special breakfast celebrating Mckenna’s 18th birthday- how cool is that!

We then rented quads to use to explore the island; we had four of them.

Because it was our first time out, we decided Hannah and Mckenna should be riders.

I have to admit, I was a bit anxious. I don’t like driving in strange places, I have very little experience driving quads, and it would require us to go through the city, along with the other crazy drivers, on narrow, busy streets.

We set off towards the southern most part of the island; I white- knuckled it the whole way.

Driving it was not my idea of fun. It was way too stressful.

Although the kids might say otherwise, I did actually drive the speed limit, just very cautiously. Mckenna later created this:

Although this was not taken on the quad, it pretty much sums up how I felt about driving it.

I was more than relieved when we finally made it to Caldera Beach.

It’s hard to tell in the picture, but the sand is almost a chocolate brown.

When we were ready to move on, I was even more relieved when Amanda offered to drive one of the quads so I didn’t have to. We rearranged accordingly; I much preferred being a rider.

Our next stop was the lighthouse, which offered more beautiful views.

After the lighthouse, we found a small family restaurant, which turned out to be delightful.

The food was interesting..,

Yes - that’s squid.

Just call him Davy Jones.

Glenn and Taylor also ordered an appetizer of small, salted, raw fish that are eaten whole.

The tiny bones looked like hair; they were the only ones who tried them.

I think Taylor enjoyed his entree much more. That’s all that was left of it.

We ordered a birthday baklava for Mckenna.

And our waitress gave her a beautiful souvenir plate - she was so sweet!

We climbed back on our quads to head home and get ready for a wine tasting.

The drinking age in Europe is 18, so we thought it would be a fun way to continue celebrating McKenna’s birthday.

It was another beautiful setting, with gorgeous views.

The wine was good and the food beautifully presented. Most of it was delicious, but there was one cheese we all found disgusting. (It’s not this one; this was a good one)

And we were treated to another beautiful sunset.

Happy birthday my sweet girl! \240❤️
