Batchawana Bay

We were very pleased to have Sam, Matt and of course our furry little friend Hurley join us for the long weekend. They made a special stop and came bearing gifts from Pino’s.

It was such a calm night a paddle was in order. Even Hurley joined in on the water festivities.

Can you see the little head poking over the side.

Hurley and I started the day taking in a beautiful sunrise.

Our first adventure a trip to Chippewa Falls.

We worked up an appetite climbing and exploring so a fritter from the Voyageur was in order.

Another beautiful Day on the Bay.

Sam and Matt had a great idea for a swim up bar on the dock.

Spider Dogs .. after dinner treats!

Beautiful!

And of course to finish off the day we enjoyed a wonderful fire and a game of Euchre by firelight.. it is hard to tell the difference between Aces and hearts in the dark.

2
Sault Ste. Marie Canal National Historic Site

We started our day by exploring the HUB trail along the waterfront. Unfortunately much of Whitefish Island was underwater and not passable on our bikes. We did see a boat passing through the locks.

3
Northern Superior Brewing Co.

After our long 11 km bike ride we had to refuel on electrolytes 😃

4
Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre

The Bush Plane Heritage Center

We spent the afternoon exploring this fantastic place. Lots to see!

You never know where you might find an inucshuk.

This one reminded me of Freddy’s old Chevy and Morgan❤️

5
Batchawana Bay

We have had lots of visitors ready to explore the north this summer. Kim and Chris left for the south today so it is back to our quiet life and laundry.

Lots of work today cutting up trees.

Matt Baker came to help us cut the trees today. He does a great job of putting them right where he says he’s going to

And the beverage that choose Ed after all the hard work was done.

6
Meijer

Busy day.. we went into town for a swim and Chiro appt.. then our first trip to the US for supplies and package pick up.

Stage one completed today. With the arrival of the sea can… Finally! We now have the spot cleared which will be his new home.

Batchawana Bay

Stage 2 complete!

We are another day closer to u

Our sea can having its new home. Gravel arrived today and is now ready for the back hoe.

We spent the afternoon completing the tree cut up process.

We took a break and had to spend some time on the water. Lake Superior was beautiful today.

Supper on the dock. We won’t have too many more days that we can enjoy this.

Batchawana Bay

It was a beautiful end to a very busy day. Filled with flames and fire and lots of wildlife stopping by to see us.

Wow 9 in total and coming in so close!

They joined us for dinner 🥘

Wow.. then look at this sun set. ❤️

Batchawana Bay

We did our long walk today over to Batchawana park with a stop at the voyager for a coffee on the way back. Spent the day doing some tidy up then the rain came about 3 o’clock . It was after 9 o’clock tonight and we had to go do a recovery mission on the daok as the waves have taking it away.

Yep.. getting used to this retirement thing.

10
Wawa

We did a road trip today to Wawa to pick wild blueberries... I think we are now stocked up for the winter.

After a rest stop at the visitors center and of course ice cream from Young’s General store. We went downtown to check out a local artisan market. Beautiful quilt work of art. We then make a stop and tour at Algoma Highlands Blueberry farm where we picked up 2 of their new wine and a blueberry butter to try. \240

A beautiful work of art in celebration of Canada’s. 150 Th anniversary. Each province has its own unique square.

Stopped at this market open today and next Tuesday.

Window day! We weren’t sure if it would fit.. but all is good and good as new now. No more lawnmower holes.

As we went to bed we had a furry neighbor stop by. We first noticed him right at the patio door looking inside.

11
Pancake Bay Provincial Park

We started the day with yoga on the beach at Pancake. The air was crisp, but at the beach it was beautiful. You could feel the sunshine and the warmth of the sand. Teresa also joined us and we had a total of 10 participants.

12
Batchawana Bay

We started our day with a trial Camino walk. With packs loaded we headed off to Pancake Bay Provincial Park and did a 7.5 km walk.

Our new brown sea can.. there isn’t much a fresh coat of paint won’t make look amazing!

Ready now for the new wood to be piled.

We finished just in time for the rain to start. The weather gods are bringing the raft in for us this year.

Watch the video... before we went to bed the raft was at the shore.

Katelyn arrived for a visit this weekend.

We visited Chippewa falls in the morning and hiked back to the lagoon area. After refueling with lunch and piling some wood in the garage for the winter we went off to Pancake park to explore the 3.5 km loop.

Katelyn is keeping us busy!

We started our day with the big canoe paddle. An amazing experience and lots of history shared about the Voyageurs. We had the pleasure of meeting Joany McGuffin..she is the executive director for the Canoe company and also an published author of several canoe books and the movie Painted Lands.

We then hiked the Edmund Fitzgerald Lookout trail 7km with our packs for more practice.

In between our activities we picked up and piled 3.5 cords of wood getting ready for the cooler nights ahead.

13
Lake Superior Provincial Park

Katelyn is wearing us out.... she wanted to do the Awausee trail at Lake Superior Provincial Park. It’s a 10 km loop quite difficult with a 450 meters of elevation gain.

After our hike we stopped at the visitors center for a quick pee.. and who did we run into again.. Bob and Lucie... very small world.

We had a new neighbour stop by this morning while we were having our morning coffee.

Out for our last walk Of the season. It’s a rainy drizzly beautiful day ❤️

14
West Branch

We closed up yesterday and are now on our way home. Fall is definitely in the air and the trees are already showing lots of colour.

Stopped for lunch in West Branch at the Tipsy Bear Bistro a great spot we would highly recommend. As we drove through town on our way our we came across several shops and just had to go back.

We met Vicki at Visions by Vicki who said she would love to come to Batchawana to teach a class( her husband loves to fish) and then we stopped into Aunt Effy’s quilting.. a great place for everything quilting.

West Branch was a pleasant surprise!
