The Paddle Steamer - JD Wetherspoon

From Bath to Largs where Andy’s boat \240has been for the winter. It’s very rainy here but we hope for a drier week per forecast for walking round Arran.

It’s a very big Marina

Arrived!

Happy view from the Paddle Steamer Wetherspoons

3
Brodick

The “CalMac” ferries are quite old fashioned. \240Andy says a combination of Scottish vested interest keep them that way. \240Still, they managed to fix up a good porridge breakfast during the crossing.

4
The Shurig

First days walking on Arran. \24010 miles from Brodick to Whiting Bay.

Also taxi/ train/ 2 mile walk/ the. ferry from Andy’s boat in Largs Marian to Brodick and two miles walk to food and beer this evening.

Weather perked up big time this morning with sunshine and clear skies. \240Faded later though. Great varied coast walking it looks like a fab choice of route.

5
The Lagg Inn 1791

From Whiting Bay to Lagg over the tops rather than round the coast. 10+ miles today.

Great upland walk through Forestry to the lovely Inn at Lagg.

Snack stop with views and logging lorry

we arrive early but checkin no problem. Seeking local interest we head for the Lagg Distillery 2019 and it’s an extravaganza of facilities with just what we need.

View to Ailsa Craig island. \240This apparently is where all the worlds Hurling Stones come from

6
Laighbent Bed and Breakfast, Blackwaterfoot, Isle of Arran KA27 8HB, UK

7 miles along the coast although it took as long as 10 on a forestry road yesterday.

The coast path is wiggly and stony but we saw Seals, Oyestercatchers and lots else as well as fab views across to Mull of Kintye and also the mountainous North of Arran which beckons.

View to Mull of Kintyre

Lochranza Hotel, Isle of Arran KA27 8HL, UK

Form Blackwaterfoot to Lochranza 17 miles a big walk but fab weather and we are pleased with our achievement.

The coast is gorgeous and even better with Kintire visible inthe distance.

Our hotel is a community project so a bit flaky but we love it more for that.

8
Skipness

Gentler day but still manage 20,200 steps

Ferry to Kintyre and walk to engrossing Skipness with lovely hoses and astounding castle. Free to enter and restored enough to explore properly.

Attempt Arran Distillery but they turn us away at 1600 last orders have been called

Ery happy chats and times at the Lochranza Country Inn, quirky and community run

9
Lochranza Country Inn

Fun times at the Inn. We’ll miss it’s unique quirkiness. \240

Ferry Terminal (Stance 1), Brodick, Isle of Arran KA27 8AU, UK

To. Rodrick to complete our circuit of Arran. Proud. \2408 miles so far

Lovely woodland beach \240walk then right onto the ferry to Ardrossan

We take an earlier ferry as the CalMac has been unreliable today so plenty of time in Largs for showers then back to the Oaddle Steamer for curry and beers

Happy whisky reminisces on Shearwater before turning in.

A great trip
