Our last full day!

After a couple of early mornings we slept in a little today. I went for a run and got my cafe con leche and chocolate croissant at the local market (it was the 4th time I did that this week). \240I will miss that…

We walked up to the Gaudi-designed Park Guell, about a half mile north of us. It was the brainchild of Eusabi Guell, a wealthy industrialist, who often worked with Gaudi. \240Guell wanted a 60 unit housing development that was surrounded by nature. It was started in 1900, but work stopped in 1914 with the outbreak of WWI. \240Only two houses were built. One of which Gaudi lived in for 20 years. \240It was then \240turned into a wonderful park that offers great views of the city.

We spent a couple of hours walking around.

Two photos from my run this morning.

I took a lot of photos in the park.

One of my favorites was the trencadis mosaics. \240Broken bits of ceramics rearranged into new patterns. It was all discarded from local factories.

We walked back down the hill and got pizza for lunch. \240Luke went back to his place and Amy and I brought Ellie to the bus that would get her to the airport and said goodbye.

Amy and I then walked around for a couple of hours and then went back to our place to rest and pack.

We ate dinner at the restaurant below our apartment and it was quite good. We walked by it everyday and it was always busy at night, and I can see why.

We walked back to Luke’s place and said goodbye. As we walked back we started hearing these loud noises and music. We walked toward it and saw a street procession with fireworks, sparklers, music, and gigantes (giant paper mache puppets that people wear and dance in). We had no idea what was going on, but it was super cool!

What a great way to end our week here in Barcelona! \240It was great to see Luke happy here and we’re glad Ellie could join us for a couple of days.

We have a 1:00 pm flight tomorrow to Amsterdam and then to Minneapolis. \240If everything goes as planned we should land at MSP around 7:00 pm.
