First full day in Canada was filled with city sightseeing. We went to the top of Calgary Tower to see the views of the city but it was a bit cloudy.

Located where we are staying, which is slightly out of view as the skyscrapers hide it...

Calgary Pride:

They have extremely long freight trains -about a mile long!

There was a glass floor to walk on which felt very scary at first but you got used to it.

We’re lucky to be staying in the Calgary ‘free zone’, meaning we can get the tram to the main areas of the city without paying anything. I was extremely impressed with the accessibility of the tram. So much so that I got Sam to video me getting off lol.

This is how easy it should be to get on and off a train in the U.K. \240

The streets are pretty and they have huge autumnal coloured hanging baskets in the main streets.

Final thoughts for today: it’s cold! we’ll be getting snow tonight. The locals are so friendly and very proud of their country- really want to show it off to you. Practically every building I’ve been in so far has automatic doors at the push of a button for wheelchair users. Thumbs up from me so far!

Check in tomorrow x

Day 2

We had a slow start to the day and then walked to 17th Avenue which is meant to be the main street to head to. I was a little underwhelmed. It didn’t help that we started by turning the wrong way to the crappy part of town- quite deprived. But we soon realised and headed in the opposite direction. The street was mostly eateries, not many shops. Although we did go to a really cute shop that had lots of memorabilia (but also a lot of ‘trophy taxidermy’).

We ate in a great restaurant and had our first tasting of Poutine, a National dish that incorporates chips, cheese and gravy. Ours was a variation of this as it had pulled pork on it and the gravy was like a bbq sauce flavour.

After that we walked to the Saddledome and watched a Hockey game! It was Calgary Flames vs Vancouver Canucks and we obviously supported the Flames, which was the right choice as we won 4:2. The atmosphere was amazing, although it was a bit strange as the game lasted for 2 hours 40 but only one hour of that was play, with 20 mins of play time and then long breaks in between. It was a brutal sport and we witnessed a few fights lol! By the end of the day we were both exhausted!

When The Flames scored. Press play.
