Towing the Gladiator and ebikes this time.
Quick camp set up tonight in Lava Hot Springs as we’re just here for a night.
At a Harvest Host in Garrison, MT tonight. Parking is a little cramped, but there’s a creek and Denali can run free.
And there are other puppies to play with!
Think we wore Denali out.
Garrison MT
Trying to get back into our yoga practice.
Denali too!
And it’s Race Day!
Making our way to Glacier!
We’re camped across the street from Flathead Lake.
With a decent view of the lake.
Beautiful Flathead Lake.
Denali is a fan of the cool water.
Think we wore him out!
Our camp at Flathead Lake
Flathead Lake
On our bike ride around the lake today Denali decided to chase a squirrel up a tree.
Denali is such a happy pup living the outdoor life.
Our camp in Whitefish - super narrow bit very private and shady.
Denali went to the kennel/daycare for a few days. Still smiling!
And so we can go play! Day one at Under the Big Sky festival.
Andy and Lisa decided to join us!
Molly Tuttle on the small stage.
Ryan Bingham on the main stage.
49 Winchester
Whisky Myers. Should have been the headliner.
Shane Smith and the Saints Under the Big Sky.
Save Farmland
49 Winchester at the Remington bar

49 Winchester at the Remington Bar. Wow.
Denali came home from the kennel exhausted!
Driving from Kalispell to East Glacier
We’re in a crappy KOA campground for a few days, but the views are amazing.
Two Medicine Lake in Glacier National Park
Oh look, a glacier.
Nice Jeep
Exploring the Many Glaciers area with our favorite furball
Man in the wild!
He was sooo happy to get wet!
And now exhausted
Nightime bike ride.
It doesn’t get dark here until 10:30.
St Mary Lake in East Glacier - that’s Wild Goose Island out there.
Going-to-the-Sun road, heading west up the east side.
Bird Lady Falls, west of the Continental Divide
One of many waterfalls on the west side.
Lake McDonald
Found a good swimming hole! Very cold! 🥶
Denali got in anyway!
Heading back up the west side.
It’s a LONG way down!
Mountain goat crossing!
And more up on the cliff.
Denali decided to mimic them. That’s a four foot high wall he lept up on!
Back on the Continental Divide. We would have done this hike, but signs warned of lots of grizzly activity.
Going to the Sun Road from East Glacier to West.
Crossing into Canada this morning! A bear crossed the road right behind us. We’ve now seen bear, wolf, and mountain goats right on the road.
Not hot here.
Staying at a Harvest Host tonight - Hard Knox Brewery in Black Diamond, Alberta.
Poutine! We’re definitely in Canada now.
Driving into Canmore, AB
Had lunch at a French bistro in Canmore.
This town is overrun by ground squirrels!
And Denali is determined to get one.
Johnston Canyon, Banff
Coming into Banff!! 🤗
Camping at Johnston Canyon
Right by the river
Hiked a couple kilometers up Johnston Canyon to see the falls.
The water color and clarity is amazing.
Denali posed!
Video of the fabulous Fairmont Banff Hotel. We had Sunday Brunch here.
The river behind our campsite in Johnston Canyon in Banff National Park
Started the day with brunch in the Vermilion Room at the Fairmont.
They just don’t build hotels like this anymore
Rode the Banff gondola
And climbed to the Sulphur Mountain Observatory
Looking down on the Bow Valley and Banff
Steve refuses to believe that’s the end of the road
Wandering around downtown Banff
Lake Minnewanka
We really needed a bath. Very chilly! 🥶
Sunset over the Johnston Creek, just over the path from our campsite
What a lover!
Up early to catch the shuttle to the lakes
Lake Louise and Victoria Glacier
Denali approves
And then the real highlight - Moraine Lake!
That water color is caused by glacier flour - a fine silt that comes off the glacier during spring and summer melt. It’s so fine it stays suspended on the surface till later in the summer.
The valley full of glaciers and waterfalls above is Valley of the Ten Peaks.
First Molson! Steve says when in Rome…
Camped at Lake Louise soft-side campground. We had reservations at a site on the river in the hard-side campground but the rangers wouldn’t let us in with the rooftop tent - even though we weren’t going to deploy it. We had hoped to see a grizzly there. Now we’re inside an electric fence. 😡
Waterfalls from the glacier above Lake Marain.
Zoom in on that glacier. The ice must be hundreds of feet deep.
Denali and I hanging out in Cochran’s for a few days while Jess flys to Denver for work.
The Brewery where we had lunch
They had a great off leash area next to the river where Denali made many friends. He seems happy.
On Tuesday, Jess left Steve and Denali camped here - Cochrane, Alberta.
They had a riverwalk right behind the RV park.
And it’s off leash!
Jess flew to Denver to meet up with her new team for the InstructureCon conference.
We had a very happy pup and when we met back up today at Calgary International Airport!
Driving back through Banff on our way to Jasper.
The views just keep coming!
We finally saw some bears!!
The parks say the buffalo berries are especially abundant in the valleys right now, so they’re seeing bears closer to the roads.
Coming up on Athabasca Glacier and the Columbia Icefields.
Final stretch to Jasper.
We went to Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary today!
And got to meet a couple of the pack up close. This pack of four are all high content wolfdogs (so 80% plus wolf).
Zeus is the male alpha.
And Kuna is the female alpha and original wolfdog to the sanctuary. She’s 71% wolf, so classified as a upper-mid content wolfdog.
She was very gentle and ate out of most of our hands.
Zeus and Nova. Both very shy with humans.
Zeus would come to the caretaker, but not us.
Loki is a low content wolfdog (29% and below wolf) and super appreciative of treats from anyone.
His mannerisms were as much dog as wolf.
Some of the other wolfdogs were too shy to come within 20 feet of us. Horton was very skittish.
And Rue, Loki’s girlfriend.
Camped in Whistlers campground near Jasper, surrounded by mountains.
We woke up to elk everywhere.
Denali was intrigued and even went after a cow one evening. Thank god for the tether!
The top of Maligne Canyon in Jasper.
We spent a few hours winding amongst the trails and bridges in this slot canyon.
About half way down, the river starts being fed by underground tributaries. Medicine Lake, up canyon seeps water underground through the limestone till it joins the river.
There’s water coming in everywhere.
A little rain doesn’t stop us!
One of the main underground tributaries.
Medicine Lake
At Maligne Lake, and Denali is being such a good boy.
Stopped for a drink while we wait for our boat.
Denali is happy to be treated just like a human on the boat!
Out on the lake at the docks near Spirit Island.
Spirit Island - a sacred place to the Stoney people.
And the pristine wilderness beyond. I think it was called valley of the thrones - so named because each god could have his/her own mountain throne.
Spirit Island
Heading back to the boathouse.
And that concludes Denali’s first powerboat ride!
Back at camp - the moon is almost full.
We enjoyed a fire in one of these superb Canadian fire pits!
Maligne Canyon
How beautiful is this?
On the right side a river is coming out of a cave into the canyon. This water flows in underground rivers fed from Maligne lake.
It’s another cave River.
Oh, hi.
Maligne Lake
Spirit Island
Denali drinking in some glacier flour laced water. Spirit is strong here.
Hit play.
Stopped at Athabasca Falls on our way out.
Intense amount of water funneling through this canyon!
Coming into the Columbia Icefields!
Part way up the trail to Athabasca Glacier. The edge was here in 1982.
There she is!
And the raging melt coming off Athabasca Glacier.
Denali seemed right at home!
Looking across the icefields from the visitor center.
Athabasca is on the right.
Making our way south on the Columbia Icefields Parkway.
One of the many, many roadside waterfalls.
Weeping wall
We finally saw a grizzly!!!
Coming up on Bow Lake
We ran the Kootenay River today. Now I know why the lakes are so blue.
Lunch break
Pedley falls runs into the Kootenay River directly from a glacier. The water off the falls is freezing cold.
Made camp in Kootenay National Park near Radium Hot Springs last night. There are mountain sheep all over the road to the campground.
We dropped Denali at daycare and joined a whitewater trip down the Kootenay River.
There’s that unreal cerulean blue glacier water again!
We had a rather large group in a paddle raft.
Stopping for lunch.
Enough time to search for worry stones.
This cliffside had hundreds of nesting swallows. The guide thought the birds tunneled their nests into the rock. 😂
Coming up on the main waterfall for this stretch of river.
Our goofy English guide, George.
Pedley Falls - colder than the river even!
Is George photobombing or are we? 🤔
End of the line!
There are wildfires all around, ruining the air quality. We got a good look at one on the way back from the take out.
So we got back on the road to head south earlier than planned. Denali is excited to see where next!
Coeur d'Alene
Beauty Bay
Camped in the heart of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
Sites are a bit tight, but there are lots of old trees.
Playing with sticks at the lake!
We found a great little bay to go paddleboarding.
Denali figured out he could jump from board to board.
Everyone floating the bay were talking about the “shark dog”
We biked Hiawatha Trail in a downpour.
Riding the 14-mile Hiawatha Trail.
There were several tunnels we went through - the first one was 1.6 miles long.
One of the many trestles we crossed.
It started raining on us a few miles in.
Hiding out in one pf the tunnels from the worst of the rain.
This is just the beginning of how muddy we got.
The deer were hiding too!
These little guys were all over the shuttle line at the bottom begging.
Arrived in the Tri-Cities area last night.
Playing in the Columbia River
And a little wine tasting
Wala Wala Wine tasting at Caprio Cellars. We quite liked their wines. We brought some home to share.
Camped at a very out of the way Harvest Host winery in Oregon
And Denali found a friend!
They had a very interesting tasting toom. They built the winery themselves and decorated it with “junk” from their homestead.
Copper Belt
Arrived in McCall, Idaho - our last destination before we head home.
We added three new states and two provinces to our map this trip!
McCall had tons of these dedicated bike trails
Exploring the town
And Ponderosa State Park on Payette Lake.
Paddleboard pup!
Denali has become pretty good at switching boards.
McCall Lake
Camped tonight at Anderson Reserve, a Harvest Host in the middle of nowhere
They run a butcher shop and steakhouse
And a fantastic bar
Denali loved playing in their creek and pasture
Food was amazing
We’ll come back when they finish building their cigar silo
Last night on the road!
We’re camped at a little city park in Burley, Idaho.
Denali appreciates that it’s right on the Snake River!
