Yesterday and today has been one action packed day and now after a long 31 hours it is finally time to get some sleep here at st Hilda’s college in Oxford. Yesterday was a very hectic day. Mamma, Pappa, Mikael and Riley all came to drop me off at the airport yesterday. We arrived at Toronto Pearson airport at 3:30pm and then after receiving my pass board and booking information we dropped off my bag and it was time for goodbyes. There were lots of mixed emotions while saying goodbye to my loved ones, I was filled with both nerves and excitement. I was now on my own and my adventure has begun. As soon as the parents left myself and 6 other students went through security and found our gate. Once we arrived to the kate I had steady made some new friends. While waiting to board we then decided that we of course needed some Starbucks. While sipping our drinks and wishing we all sat at the gate getting to know eachothere. Our flight ended up being delayed by about 45 minutes which was fine as it was more time for us to get to know each other. On the plane I ended up sitting between Isabella (who is from Ecuador) and Sophia (who is from Saskatoon), both girls were very nice. We all wanted to try to get some sleep on the plane so we were planning on taking a gravel to help us fall asleep, however all of us were starving at this point and wanted to wait for the food before going to sleep. By the time to food came to the us at the back of the plane, there was just over 2.5 hours left on the flight so we decided not to take anything and hoped we would naturally fal asleep. Sophia was lucky and feel asleep however I could not sleep, it could’ve been from all the excitement so I just ended up listening to music and watching some episode of Brooklyn 99. Then finally we arrived at London heathrow at 6:30am. Customs were a breeze and by the time we got out our bags were already off the belt waiting for us. We then had 20 minutes to go get a snack before hopping on the bus to Oxford. A couple of the girls and I went to this tiny coffee shop in the airport and got some grapes and an ice coffee as that caffeine was much needed. It was there I then learned that apparently my 10 pounds bills had been “discontinued” earlier this year and were no longer accepted. We then got on the bus and after just over an hour we arrived at our hotel for this first leg of the trip, st Hilda’s college. St Hilda’s college is actually one of the 38 colleges that make up Oxford university, therefor are staying in dorm rooms where we will be in pairs. My roommate is Pheobe and so far we have gotten along great. We dropped off our stuff in our rooms then we all went as a group to the grocery store right around the corner were I had some pasta to eat. When we came back the last 2 of the 24 students arrived, one came from Vancouver and one was on vacation in London. We then had a quick 20 minutes to ourselves before we all met again to go and meet at the front for our walking tour of Oxford. We met our tour guide and he actually happened to be Canadian and has come to Oxford to study. We visited many different colleges that make up Oxford university, saw the museum where Albert Einstein’s blackboard was, spots where many scenes of harry potter were filmed and saw the door where C.S. Lewis got his inspiration for the characters in the novel narmia and the lamp post which he then used as the first thing the children see while entering narnia. We also visited a couple libraries including the bodleian library which could reach 120miles. That’s all the from Oxford to London and back! We heard many interesting facts and stories based on the history but one that I found quite interesting was that there are still certain colleges in Oxford that are only for females and the last only male college only started accepting woman in 1982. After just over two hours the tour came to an end and we had some free time downtown if we wanted before heading back to the college. Myself, pheobe, Tara, chiara, Kayla and raindrops decided to do some shopping and at the Oxford university shop phoebe and I decided to buy matching sweaters, which are super cute. We then walked back and had some down time before meeting again at 6 for dinner. We walked back downtown as a group and went to a very cute Italian restaurant called Bella italia. We got bruschetta as an appetizer and then had the most delicious, gigantic lasagna as our main course. We were then supposed to have dessert but my group and I were all exhausted and so full that we decided to skip dessert and head back. So now here I am writing this blog forcing my eyes awake. So therefor I am now going to head to sleep as I have to get up at 8 am tomorrow morning for breakfast and then class. Talk to you all again tomorrow.
