Flight from Denver to Munich, Germany where we will get our connection to Bologna, Italy!
Arrived in Bologna a beautiful city rich with Roman and Medieval history. \240After a long nap we headed out to find a town as alive after dark as in the day!
Covered Porticos what the city is known for. \240Trade guilds started them, then people realized they could extend their building upstairs onto public property if the built a portico. \240Many of the city’s rulers later required them. \240They go on and on for miles, unless you are crossing a large intersection you are covered.
Walk home from a great dinner at Trattoria De Me..
The \240apartment we stayed in was in the center of Bologna

The Two Towers
Bologna once had over 100 towers. \240Wealthy families built them for status and security. They eventually were dismantled to allow for efficient roadways. We saw about 5-10.
The week before we arrived the shut the leaning one down and started emergency construction for fear of collapse. \240Looking at the leaning tower this appears obvious however we later went to the city’s museum and learned it has been extremely leaning for hundreds of years!
There are the two main towers in Bologna.
