We arrived in Manchester this morning for a quick layover. The plane ride over was pretty easy, it definitely went by quickly! Even the 2.5 hours we spent trying to sleep and not getting more than a few minutes of sleep. Time for more coffee! 😁☕️
Morning in Genova
We woke up early this morning to explore Genoa. We had some cappuccinos at a historic cafe shop, so delicious! Then, we wandered to the San Lorenzo Catheral. The facade was beautiful with black and white stripes.
Then, we walked through town to see via Garibaldi during the day. We also went through the historic center and saw what is believed to be Christopher Columbus’ house.
In the afternoon, we caught a bus to pick our rental car and start our journey to Tuscany. We made a stop in San Gimignano. It was a beautiful town with some really amazing views. And we got to try some of Italy’s award winning gelato!
We checked into our agriturismo called Villa Mazzi in the evening. The views of Montepulciano are incredible!
Today was our first day in Tuscany. We visited two hill towns and a lake north of our agriturismo in Montepulciano.
First stop, Arezzo. We were lucky to find that is was an antique market day in the city. The town was filled with vendors selling all kinds of goods. We bought a map of the wine regions in Italy. It was walking around looking at all the different things. Also, the architecture and main square were really cool. We ate lunch at a restaurant that was filmed for the movie Life is Beautiful.
Next stop, Cartona. This town ended up being one of our favorites. The town was on the very top of a hill, and most every street was up a steep hill. There were so many cute side streets to wander. We decided to walk up to the fortress at the very top of town... ended up being a lot of flights on our Apple Watch! We had over 50 flights by the end of the day. The top of town had phenomenal views of Umbria region!
Last stop, Castiglione del Lago. We originally went here to jump in the lake but decided food sounded better! We ate a place called L’aqua. They had a cute terrace and the food was great!
