We will have a family tea tonight at the Club hotel

It’s our last full day in Roma today. We had a quiet morning again. Necia and Brenton came over for coffee before we went over to the Big Rig entertainment area. It was a model train that ran around the park which was lovely, we all jumped on and had a ride

We then went for coffee at the local bakery had a early lunch. Kev and Brenton are working on putting a tire rack on top of the car and we will head over this afternoon and have pizza tea together. Ashes had to go back to Charletsville this afternoon as she has \240got a flight tomorrow morning out of there, so she’ll be away for the next five days flying.

Today is the day we leave Roma, we got up around 7oclock and had some breakfast, and the pack up. It had rain all night and this morning it’s a cool 10degrees. We needed 2 new tyres on the caravan so Kev went down and got them put on. It was just as well he did because both tyres were not in a good state. Necia came in and we went down to Woolworths and got a last-minute supplies. We all then met back at Trevor‘s place to say goodbyes. On \240the road by about 10 o’clock.

Stopped at Injure for fuel at 2:09 per litre. This is the last stop that you can get fuel before you go into Canarvan gorge.

It is still raining and is a cool 11° looks like it’s going to be a cold night

On the way into the gorge cattle on the side of the road watching the humans invade their territory

Arrived at Canarvan gorge big 4 caravan park about 2:30 on an \240unpowered site. The park by the end of the day will be full. Still drizzly with rain and cool but I really pretty spot nature at our fingertips kookaburras at the back of the caravan and kangaroos at the front Platapus areas right around so looking forward to the next few days.

Camped at Canarvan gorge last night very cold but a beautiful spot to stay, with Australian animals relaxing around you. Wallabies and kookaburras, Kangaroos and of course a lovely husband. We are on a non power site, so we got up this morning to 8degrees. Light breakfast on the road at 10:20. Going to attempt a five hour walk today up through the gorge, taking in some aboriginal art Moss gardens are amphitheatre and Ward’s Canon

Starting our temp 16

Today’s has been a special day we have just done a 10.6 km walk through Canarvan Gorge,

took insights at the Moss Garden ,

then walked further up to the amphitheatre,

hen onto the art gallery which had aboriginal art

. We did six creek crossings

and came home and feel a little bit sore.

Today is a rest day, felt a bit wrecked after our walk yesterday, thought it was a good time to open a book😉

It’s come to about 3 o’clock in the afternoon and we decided we do a short 20 minute walk into the Rock Pool it is a very tranquil and calming place. Glad we did the walk.

We’ve come back, had some showers and now settling in for happy hour

And a barbecue tonight.

Last day in Canarvon gorge, cosy relaxed in breakfast

Going to walk in to Mickey Gorge and

Warrumbah gorge it took about 2 hour round trip

Warrumbah gorge was much better than Mickeys

Packed up and leaving Canarvan gorge caravan park at 9:41 and the temperature is 16°. Heading to Emerald today

We stopped and got petrol at Rollingstone for $1.99 a litre very small town not much in there. We’ve come through from Rolliston to Emerald and stopped at a town called Spring Tim quite a large town decided to stop and have lunch here.

The road between Robertson and Springsure \240has been a little bit of a challenge parts are easy to drive and then some parts it’s been very bumpy, temperature is finally up to 21 at the moment which is nice.

The country side out here is beautiful with lots of trees, quiet green and stunning hills and ranges

Just out of town, there’s a free camp which overlooks the virgin rock note to sells nice place to stop next time

Photo hasn’t done it justice it’s spectacular as you get closer

Fairbairn, dam just out of Emerald. The dam was built purely for irrigation.

Got ourselves into a RV caravan park which is packed only cost eight dollars ahead for the night so $16, no power, will just do the one night here

Had a lovely happy hour with the Goldy Oldies

Left Emerald caravan park at 8 o’clock this morning and the temperature is 14°

Grabbed at coffee and a toastie on the run

Stopped Barcildean for a break visited the tree of knowledge

The town has 4 pubs in the Main Street

Such an old town with so much history

This town is where the Australian Labour Party had its beginning, attached to the great shearer’s strike in 1891

Made it to Longreach by 3 o’clock filled up with petrol at $1.98 set up, showered and happy hours by 10 to 5

Met a lovely couple from Brisbane Darren and June, ended up hitting it off well they are heading to Adelaide in February so hopefully we will be able to catch up with them again

Quanta’s museum

We had a tour that started at 9 o’clock this morning at the Qantas Museum. We ended up staying there until 1:30. It was really informative about history Qantas and the people that found it

Came back and had a bit of lunch and then decided to go for a drive around town. Checked out some of the free camping spots. Absolutely packed with campers. Not sure if that’s red really want to stay nomad. It is dusty and dirty then came back into town had a look at some of the stark buildings, which we hope to have a walk around tomorrow Came back and called the family and then sat down to a nice roast dinner

Today we decide to stay an extra day Longreach . It’s a catch up day. Kev had a bit of work to do and I wanted to do some washing and give ourselves a bit of a clean start for the next couple of weeks. Seems like everybody else is doing the same thing here, so far for washing machines.

While in the caravan park today so Borlga birds came into the park, they look a bit like a grey Flamingo

Left our site at Longreach at 9:10 this morning at 17° short drive into Winton

Got to Winton about 11:30, had booked the night before at the North Gregory hotel, had 15 sites at the back of the hotel for $15 a night.

We then went out to the dinosaur museum. It was fantastic. We spent five hours wandering around visiting the labratory, and and it was well worth it.

Spent the evening with Sue and Paul at the outdoor dining at the Hotel

Winton was a lovely stay. Got up this morning about 8 o’clock, went for a walk up the street and had breakfast in the street.

Went back to the site and pulled out at 10:22, heading to Cloncurry

Kooma new friend Star

Travelling between the towns it is 31degrees

We arrived at Cloncurry about 3 o’clock, \240grabbed a few groceries and headed out of town about 40k’s-ish to a free campsite

Corella Dam free camp

Made it to corella Dam 4:30pm, \240it is a picture of a spot, we were only going to stay for one night but I think it will be 2 had a fun evening by a bonfire with Geoff Julie, Leo Glenus, Charlie, Bunka

Woke up to a slow but beautiful morning here at Corella Dam about to enjoy breakfast of a bacon and egg Muffin and then sort out what we want to do for the day

Unfortunately we have discovered that the gas hot water is not working will need to go into Mt Isa today to see if it can be fixed.

Mary Kathleen mining site town that has been discomissied.

It had

Had a wonderful night by the bonfire tonight Chang with you and old Glenys and Leo Julie and Gregory and then there was some new ones that came along

Julie & \240Brian, Julie is the one cuddling Kooma

Maria, Maria‘s husband, we’re not sure of his name

The rest are from the night before

New day- no power no hot water

Leo came over to have a look at the gas, but there was nothing that could be done. Will put the generator on, have some breakfast and head on into Mt Isa

Left camp at 11:20 felt like leaving Family behind as everyone was standing there waving us goodbye it’s 22° and we’re heading to Mount Isa

Got into Mount Isa at about 12:30 set up, went for a nice walk into town. I had my nails done and we walked back. Had a well deserved shower , now sitting having a quiet night it’ll be happy hour

Today we spent the day at Mt Isa

Today started with a trip to the underground hospital at 10:30 the hospital was built and decked out within three months of deciding to build, after \240the Japanese bombed Darwin. Mount Isa felt that they were under threat and the local doctor at the time felt they needed a hospital underground that couldn’t be detected. Luckily, the hospital was never used. The entrances were covered in the 1946,47 and was not discovered again until the 1980’s when two boys came across a hole and made their way down, it was a great cubby until they started a fire after having a cigarette. Consequently the hospital was discovered and due to the amazing find was re-open.A museum when it was opened, the sheets, medicines bedding everything was still there, intact, never touched.

Medicine cabinet as it was left

Operating Table

Women ward

Nursery

Labour room

Matrernity wing

Did a quick shop then headed to the information centre to start the mine tour at 1pm

Roast night

Leaving Mount Isa today at 9:55am it’s. 13° all packed up. Heading back to Culcurrey and up to burke & Wills hotel.

Stopped at Burke & Wills Roadhouse about 2:15 had a bit of lunch. Decided it was probably little early to stop so we thought we would try and find a free camp tonight. Very windy out here.

Unfortunately we got hit with a stone so I’ve got a crack in the windscreen

And \240we lost our clothesline. Never mind joys of travelling

Stopped in a free camp about 105 km out of Normanton it’s a little bit breezy but it’s still 31° light tea and then short drive tomorrow to Karumba via Normanton

Managed to have our first bonfire by ourselves tonight

Happy birthday Russ

Left our lovely little camp site about 8:40 this morning . Nice breakfast in the sun, slept with all the windows open last night which was lovely .

On our way to Kurumba

Fuelled up at Normanton, then headed onto Karumba which is the golf of Carpenteria

Thank goodness we went past the caravan park to that we had booked into, it was a bit average, no shade anywhere, near the water but wasn’t great. Decided to investigate another caravan park closer to the point golf if carpentior. \240Caravan Park which gave us better access to the ocean and a beautiful sunset.

Called into the Barramundi Museum

Back for a shower then we walk down to the sunset point Tavern

Left Karumba today at 9:15. Heading back to Normanton and then make our way across to Cairns. Not sure when we’ll stop today \240temp \24023°

Left Normanton about 12 o’clock quick bite to eat, Yes, it a sites on Highway one Georgetown Kev had his first pie for the trip

Set our path for Highway one went through, Croydon Gilbert River, Gilbert River, Georgetown and stopped at Mount surprise. Bigger day than what we anticipated, but we got here, safe and sound.

We did try to do the Talias hot Springs, but the road was so bad with corrugation. We did 2 km turn around and come back out again.

Did not expect Highway 1 to look quite like this

Mount surprise caravan park was $18 for a non-powered site. Lovely spot friendly people bought some chips from the shop to go with a quiche for tea.

Stayed at Mount surprise last night. It was a lovely little spot for $18 a night unpowered. Had a quiet morning this morning.

Have gone for a little walk around the town which consists of the main street down to the railway station that is still operating.

Got underway about 1030. Temperature is 21° and we’re going to find our way through a dirt road after talking to a couple last night.

Kicking up the bull dust

How the road changes in a couple of Km

We came across a beautiful creek crossing water sounds just amazing

We continued on until we got to our Almaden, we thought we would stay there and see the Savannahlander train come through, when we reach the town the train was already there so we grab some photos and decided to keep going.

We headed towards Petford, we found a free camp on the Petford river front which is just a picture. We will enjoy the evening with a piece of steak and a glass of red wine by the camp fire.

This is what we have woken up to today

Slept in until about 9oclock and then had a bacon and egg muffin breakfast. We will go for a walk this morning then hook up. We have a couple of days to do as we please, there is always something interesting to see

Left at 11 o’clock 22° and hot after our walk

We arrived in to Mareeba \240around 12:30 filled up with fuel, went and had a coffee at the Coles complex and decided where we would go. There has been had a bit of rain out here so the national parks didn’t advise us parking in there, so we’ve gone to a

caravan \240park called Malanda Falls.

It’s a pretty spot surrounded by trees and a waterfall 200 m away from us. They have had a lot of rain up here so everything is a bit mushy. In fact, the powered sites are not even being used because that’s all mud, will be here for a couple nights.

Little animal park at the back of us

Woke up this morning to a very wet and soggy campsite. It rained quite a bit overnight and it still drizzly rain this morning. It’s not cold it’s just very wet underfoot.

Our freezer has also decided not to work properly, I guess it didn’t like all the dust it took in yesterday. We had to transfer all the meat to the caravan freezer to make sure that everything gets saved. Will be a slow day today, we will see what we can find in

Went to the information bureau in the morning she gave us a couple of ideas. We went to the Cheese and chocolate farm and saw them making a macadamia cheese and some beautiful chocolate‘s.

From then went on to Herberton museum. o the cheese and chocolate factory and bought some cheese \240was fantastic 6 acres of history that had been preserved and looked after including buildings, machinery, everything from so machines to irons to woodyard. We had a bush lunch which was cooked outdoors which was delicious. \240

We finished off the museum It was still raining so came back, so we decided to go for a drink at Australia’s biggest wooden Pub

We spent the a couple of hours there as we had not had a lot of sun on the van and our solar was struggling.

We the went to the movies and saw Oppenheimer

Up at eight can I go for walk into the town or a bit of sun today? Hopefully I’ll make it easier to try and get out for a bit concerned last night with a wee woo not actually gonna be able to get out of the site because it was so slushy and wet.

Left the park at 10 o’clock and it is 19°. Just starting to drizzle again too hard to get the caravan out of our spot which was a relief.

Had a good trip down to Cairns however it was like a corkscrew coming down from the tablelands, Kev certainly had his work cut out for him.

Reached Cairns about 12:30 and went to a car wash to give the caravan and mats a good wash as everything thing was full of dust and mud.

Got into Tasman Holiday Park and found our spot, we think it’s the best spot in the park

Lazy afternoon with a BBQ for tea

We woke up in our beautiful location at Tasman Caravan Park as we are \240here for six nights.

We are taking opportunity to get some jobs done, so some washing, clean the van Kev‘s gone to get some new washing line and will just have a quiet afternoon reading books.

Still haven’t quite got to reading books yet, but it was 30° here today. Had a good day, everything is all cleaned up. Had chicken hamburgers for tea made by chief Kev. Had a chat to the family, and that’s about it.

Today is a day for maintenance 😆

The car has gone in for a service, I have had my hair coloured and a pedicure. Kev got a massage. Looks like Nissen can get the windscreen fixed by Wednesday. Our service has bought to our attention that the seal on the gearbox needs replacing, ended up getting the all clear.

Felt like we needed to find the ocean, tide was a long way out, so settled for a walk along the wharf, little wine overlooking the ocean, \240that was coming in and the sunset

Today we did some rec day. We went and priced some stone shields for the car then we went for a drive to see where we would head on Friday. Tried to get into Palm Cove but with late notice the caravan parks are full. Had a picnic lunch by the sea which was lovely,

Decided that this is where we would like to come back to, so went and saw the caravan park walked around, picked a spot and decided that this is we will come after we’ve been at up to Cape Town

No sure what today will bring

We manage to get a windscreen for the car, so Kev has gone to get the windscreen fitted. Then he will put the stone guard on the back of the car and the rest of the day will be pretty chilled

Couldn’t help myself, had some of Rob’s rhubarb so wiped up a cake and made jam with what was left.

Watched the Matilda’s sad they lost but what a superb effort.

Late breakfast and getting organised to pull out tomorrow

Not sure what happened with today but it just disappeared 😆

Did some shopping to set us up for the next two weeks, then went into the Cairns pesinct and enjoyed the sun, watched the sunset and enjoyed a meal in the cairns centre

Today is our last day in Cairns we got up and got it so it’s organise and ready to pull out at 10 and then will head to Cooktown temperature at the moment is 23°

It was a good run today but \240we needed \240to go out over the hills again, so winding around the hills is always a challenge for Kev. Made our way back through Marabee again and on the road to Cooktown.

Stopped just outside Mount Cabone for lunch

Along the way we encountered some burn off or bush fires not sure which

Big hills of black rocks that were formed over hundreds of years

Over years these rocks have been a mystery of disappearances, even aircraft flying over the top have registered disturbs with their instruments.

Made it to Cooktown about 3:30 nice camp spot

Put up to a slow morning bit of washing went for a walk down the main street.Kev needed to \240find auto electrician, found one but he was in Cairns so now need to wait until Monday.

Went to a cafe on the foreshore overlooking the ocean and had a light lunch.

It’s a really pretty where Captain Cook arrived.

Went for a drive around the town and went up to the lookout which looked over Cooktown. Amazing view.

Went back to the caravan park and did a couple of jobs Kev put on the stone guard on the car and I finished off the washing.

Then we came down to the foreshore, on the grass with a wine and dinner of fish and chips and watch the sunset.

Had a bit of a sleep in this morning and had a lovely bacon egg breakfast. Bit breezy overnight so had to bring the awning in

But still a lovely day

After breakfast, we headed to the Cooktown Museum, which in 1889, was founded as the Saint Marys Convent school and boarding house ran by the sisters of Mercy. \240It closed in 1941 due to the threat of world war 2 attacking our shores.

The convent went to ruins, thanks to the National trust in 1969 they raised enough money to restore the building and in 1970 Queen Elizabeth time and opened it

Up at about 8:30

Had breakie, then it was waiting time for the electrician to come out and check the van as we were having trouble with solar ver power to van.

Popped down the street for the best coffee in town according to everyone, certainly packs a crowd. Temp is 25°.

So the electrician came out after waiting until 11 o’clock and discovered that we just needed to turn a power switch on in the other cupboard 🤦‍♀️$50 later, he was gone.

Decided to do a test run on a road we were told about as a bit of a shortcut to bypass Laura, not a bad road but the corigation in some parts was a bit rough so decided not to take it tomorrow.

On the way back on would you believe a truck went past picked up a stone and cracked the new windscreen!

So we quickly googled Windscreen people in town and manage to get someone to fix it at 8:30 tomorrow morning before we head out

Decided to go back to the caravan and do a few pack up jobs. Kev was taking the pegs out that we had holding down the awning, only to discover that he had put one of the pegs through a pipe so when he took the peg out it gushed everywhere over the van over phones over postcards, in shoes on chairs, everything 🌊

Management and maintenance manage to have it fixed in no time

Then sat down to a nice roast chicken dinner.

Had appointment at 8:30 to repair the windscreen, on the road by 10:30am 27°

Have decided to do the Battlecamp road

Letting the tyres down before we hit the dirt roads

The road was a bit of a challenge. It had really good spots where you could sit on 60 to 80 km and then it was treacherous parts and you could only do 20 km.

We got little bit anxious when we came across the wild fire, we had read in the morning that there was a road warning for what they called a wild burn, but had been assured by locals that it was fine. As we got closer, it was very close to the road, we were backing up to get out when a truck and another camper went through before so we decided to take the chance and follow through. It was pretty close to the road and we were little bit nervous but we got through and so she got out the other side. It was clear as

We had some great river crossings

Musgrave, Roadhouse and caravan park with the airstrip, including cows

Happy hour by 5:30 sausage sizzle on the barbecue tonight, beautiful here, 30°

Morning left at 10 tonight. Temperature is 24°

Had a coffee at the station Musgrave, then headed north

We are now on the development road, heading to Coen

Lunch at Archer Roadhouse

Left our mark on the fence post

Been a bit of a challenging this afternoon, we \240have gone over some pretty heavy corrugated roads made it into Bramwell station about 3:30

have come up for happy hour at the bar. 630. There’s a talk because we didn’t Bookings SA no room for tea so will go back and have a steak on the Barbecue

Up at 8:15 and having breakfast little bit of drizzly rain today which is a little concerning endeavour to head to the top today 24°

Fueled up at Bramwells, just started to sprinkle with rain. Wipers are on

Lunch spot about 40 km out of Bamaca

Arrived at Injinoo around 4 o’clock set up on a powered site at the front, overlooking the ocean staying for four nights, beautiful

Woke up this morning to a beautiful ocean view. Did a bacon and egg cook up.

Went for a ride around Bamaca this morning, went down along the wharf.

Checked out the other caravan parks and feel that we have got the best one here, so we’ll probably stay an extra couple of days.

Came back to the park and did a few repairs to the caravan. Some of the doorhandles had \240wiggled loose, gas top stove wasn’t working properly and the bathroom sliding door had come off its hinges, other than that all was pretty good. I did lose a pot of cinnamon which ended up right through my top shelf of the cupboards so needed to clean that up. Spent the rest the afternoon by the beach just reading and chilling out

Happy hour on the beach

Got up this morning to a slow breakfast, just coffee and a bit of raisin toast

Went for a walk along the beach with our trusty guard dog. He belongs to the caravan park, no one’s sure what her name is, but put a bowl of water out and she will protect you.

Went into town and got a few supplies. Came home and decided to go down to Pursand beach where we had lunch, sat on the beach.

Watched the helicopters come in an out lovely afternoon. Came back to Alau beach had a shower and went back into Bamaga for the evening at \240the rodeo.

Morning, once again, a chilled breakfast, ate our cereal, coffee in a deck chairs by the beach, showered and got ready for our days adventures. Today we were going to Cape York tip of Australia. It was a special day knowing how far we travelled and the challenge to get here.

Early start this morning. Haven’t seen 6 am for nearly 6 weeks. Off to catch the ferry to Thursday island.

Boat trip took an hour and 15 minutes to come across sat at the front, it was a pleasant ride

We booked on a bus trip, but it didn’t leave until 11:15 so went for a walk in the main street. Found a nice spot on the beach front for a coffee.

Got back to Bamaga at 3:45, got back to the site sat down by the beach. Kelly our neighbour came and joined us, it turned out that she was on the same fishing trawler as Nathan and Cooper from work.

Today is washing day and chilli around the van. Might have a bonfire with Kelly.

Bonfire didn’t happen however afternoon swim in the pool and then watch the sunset by the beach with a great bunch of people.

Stay tuned for tomorrow night

This morning is a quiet morning only a few vans in the caravan park, even the wind had dropped down to a very light breeze. Going to head out to the Croc Tent again this morning.

Kev had a board meeting this afternoon so I spent the afternoon by the beach.

Now it’s time to set a bonfire

We had a wonderful night by the beach ate a tea by the fire, and sat to about 11 o’clock until the tide was coming into meet us

Today is pack up day, \240got up about 8- 8:30 and did a steady packup. We had to say goodbye to some really lovely friends that we have met along the way. There was Bucko and Katie with their beautiful girls Matilda 4 and Annie 2nd. Kelly and her husband Tony whom we didn’t meet because he was working on a boat.

We had a two hour drive as we were heading to Fruitbat falls.

Found ourselves a free camp

The falls were amazing.

Eliot falls were a challenge to get into however Kev took the plunge and jumped in. The water was warm and clear

Standing at the top of the falls

Twin falls Kev managed to get amungst the falls

To get to the Eliot Falls you needed to go over some of the Old Teli track road some of it was a little challenging

We spent the whole afternoon enjoying the Falls

Sunset at our campsite

Probably an early night after last night.

Woke up to quite a dewy morning up at 7:30. Kev needed to put air back in the tyres on the caravan, we seem to do a bit of damage yesterday not much but the power box dismounted from the wall and we lost all the custard power. (That made an interesting clean up 🤦‍♀️). Cuppa tea and on the road by about 8:15 at 17 degrees

Made it to Archer River by 2 o’clock, after we turn right instead of left went about 40 km down the road and discovered we were going the wrong way, turned around and didn’t know what direction. Luckily the road was in good condition so it only took us about half an hour We were intending to stay here tonight, but we were here much earlier than we anticipated so will travel down the road until you’re ready to stop. About 50 km after we left Archer River we came across a dad and son that had rolled their Ute, we were second on the scene, everyone was okay, they were very luckily \240. There a couple of cars that had stopped to help. We got them unpacked. Got the car back on its wheels and set and made sure they were ok. Ended up coming into Musgrave which was 50 km down the road.

Pulled in at Musgrave 5:30

Even though we thought we would have a slower morning, we were up at seven. Woke up to a fog.

Kev wandered over and bought a coffee and then we had a bacon and egg muffin for breakfast.

On the road by 9:30 25°

You wouldn’t believe it have done another windscreen

Got to Laura at 11:30 time to pump the tyres back up

Everything looking, a bit red and dusty

Made it into Marabee about 3:30. Decided to give the Van a bath before we settled into a RV camp at Marabee and cleaning day tomorrow.

Made it to our caravan site at Mareeba at 6:15. Little bit further out than we anticipated 17 km out of town turned out to be a lovely little farm stay. Quickly made a fire and felt right at home.

Happy Father’s Day

Today was spent cleaning red dirt out of everything. Kev went back to the Robo and cleaned the car. I got stuck into the caravan and cleaned that, it \240was amazing where the red dirt had got in. \240Family rang about 11:30 and we had a FaceTime call with them which was lovely. \240By about 6 o’clock, Kev set another fire, and we had a little happy hour.

Porkchops, mash potato and coleslaw for tea. Off to bed early as we are both bugged.

Father’s Day tea with Kooma

On the way by 10 to 920°, going to do a little bit of shopping and then head to punker if 67 km down the road

Called into coles and grabbed the mandatory coffee first

Left Mareeba about 11:30

Made it to Palm Cove by about 12.30. Looking forward to our week here and no red dirt

Had a lovely happy hour drink on the beach with Gus and Jane

Meatballs and pasta for tea

Woke up this morning to the beautiful beach at Palm Cove. Have to pop into Cairns this morning as we need to go to a Westpac to pay for our block at Bowden

Spent the afternoon on the beach

Beautiful one day perfect the next 😃

Went for a walk along the beach this morning, then came back for a light breakfast

Alas it’s happy hour time after spending the day on the beach.

Oh no today we have woken to a bit of rain, temperature is still sitting at 23 degrees

Off to do the sky rail and train today

We have had a lovely day, took the sky rail from Smithfield at 11 o’clock. First stop on the sky rail was to Red Peak,

had a nature walk with a ranger and learnt a bit about the rain forest.

Back on the sky rail and headed up to Baron Falls

Even at this time of year they were spectacular. The last stop was at Karunda , got there about 12:30, had packed a picnic lunch, there were a lot of markets in the area.

Went

Today Kev had to go down to Cairns to get some things done on the car the filters needed to be changed after doing the cake and we needed to replace another windscreen

I stayed in Palm Cove did a bit of washing and I went for a walk down the street

Turned out that the hoses in the car needed replacing as they didn’t discovert this until the end of the day, Kev ended up driving one of the new Nissen‘s back to Palm Cove for the weekend and we’ll pick the car up on Monday

Tonight we walk down the street and had dinner at RattlenHum \240it was a lovely evening

Slow day

Great morning for a walk and breakfast about 11oclock

Everything was going so well until we had 3 green ants nest land on our site due to the wind. Ended up having to get the park groundsman to give us a hand as they were everywhere and they bit. Two hours later we were pretty much back to normal and went and spent some time on the beach

The Main Street was closed this morning for the Pt Douglas to Pt Douglas bike ride. Palm Cove is the hallway point

Then on the beach they had the little nippers lifeguard competition

Grabbed a coffee and sat on the beach and watched the events

Today is moving day from Palm Cove. We’re just doing a short drive down to Cairns. Kev had to get up this morning and go and get our car which was a bit longer than he had anticipated, but we manage to get out of a caravan park by just after 10. Found a parking bay just outside the caravan park, and went for a walk, grabbed a coffee and a bit of breakfast. Very windy at Palm Cove today, overcast but still still warm. Got into Cairns \240just after 11 o’clock. We then discovered we had left our boots \240in the loan car, so Kev just gone back to get them and then we will go for a walk and explore our surroundings around the Caravan Park

Managed to walk down to the wharf a good hour each way,we did come across this little creature just outside the caravan park, Kev went back to report it but nobody was concerned, only a python

Did stop halfway for refreshments before our walk home 😆

BBQ for tea

Up early today off to the Reef today

What a wonderful day, the trip across to the pontoon was fairly choppy, and the crew seem to know just what to do, as there were a lot of white bags on. As soon as we arrived everyone was much happier. It wasn’t too bad on the platoon as they had protection screens up an was also protected by the island.

The water was a still a little bit choppy, but it was time to get suited Kev went ahead to try things out. I needed to syc myself into it a bit more. I finally put a wetsuit on and went and got what I required. Kev was already floating about, with the help from the wonderful staff and Kev being very encouraging, I managed to get into the water and \240put my face underwater. \240There was a pipe that you could hang onto for security, \240but I did manage to go with Kev and hold his hand, and I saw the roof which was wonderful. All the different coloured fish and a coral was beautiful.

After about an hour we went and had a magnificent lunch more than what you could eat, then we did the semi sub

And the glass bottom boat which was more of the indigenous properties of the coral and how they would use it. and the ancestor

The ride home was pretty good. We had a prevailing wind, so it was much easier coming home.

We \240went for a walk around the Cairns at the markets, which were a little average, so we found Rattlenhum in Cairns, had a drink and a bit of a nibble, that was all we needed after a big lunch, so went home to a quiet night

Goodbye Cairns left \240at 9:45 23 degrees

Have had some heavy rain over night so a bit humid this morning

Off today to do the sugar cane tour at Tully

It probably took us longer to get down to Tully than we thought. We got to Tully by 12 o’clock, went around to the refinery and parked in the car park and had a bite to eat.

The tour was excellent, taking you through the arrivals of the sugar cane by train how it is unloaded

Placed on a conveyor belt sorted for any rubbish in the load (you would be amazed at what they find).

Every part of the sugar cane is used. They make a fine brown sugar here and every crystal is shipped overseas for packaging

By misunderstanding we booked for two nights at Townsville, so it meant for a chilled morning

Beautiful day here today no wind and the sun is shining. Will explore the town today.

Went for a drive into town, we were quite surprised how beautifully manicure the city was and clean, lots of trees and planted color. We went to the local museum.

Unfortunately they were all closed

We managed to find a very recent museum. There was a great display on the Pandora shipwreck. They have retrieved lots of artefacts from the bottom of the ocean.

It took you through the history of the rainforest and what was found in the rainforest. Came back and had a big chat to Sarah Homes about Port Rickaby. Went to do a bit of a grocery shopping ready to hit the road tomorrow. Unfortunately today we said goodbye to a dear family friend, Uncle Don Cameron.

Also

Unfortunately last night Phil texted and they will not be able to do our catch up,in October feeling disappointed.

Still blowing, but not as much. Went on a bit further, came across a little town called Clairview. Had a caravan park right on the beach so we’ve decided to stop here the night stopped about 3:15.

Stayed an extra day

We had a slow morning walk to coffee then did a few run around jobs. Was spoilt with a Ruby 40th Anniversary gift

In the afternoon we caught the Ferry barge that goes to the outlying islands, dropping off people, cars and holiday makers. People also use this service to come to the mainland to do grocery shopping and supplies.

Next stop Hervey Bay, we have found a farm stay Virtual Farm just outside of Hervey Bay at Booral

Went for a drive in the afternoon to see how the bay had changed after 30 years.

The owners of the farm are running a substainable farm so plenty of fresh eggs and produce at give away prices.

It is quiet cool here tonight so it’s going to be an inside night.
