Montreal

First day on the road and it was a long one. Left Montreal, got stuck in traffic from a marathon, and hit the road. 9 hours later arrived at our destination. But if we are going to be driving for that long I am grateful it is along some of the most amazingly scenic drive!!

The Driftwood bus gave me good experience for driving Betsy- she’s huge but drives really smoothly. I don’t know if you can quite get the perspective on how huge it is from this pic!

This is the pack with both our sets in the van. I put up a rope system and it seems to work really well!!

The rolling hills are just so amazing.

We had to take a ferry so we got out to explore.

Me on a boat!

Qianna took this picture so she gets photo credit but I asked her to take it so I get some credit too!

Baie-Comeau

Lovely day in Baie-Comeau. It is a stunning town on the edge of the water.

It’s chilly but we went exploring by the beach and all across the rocks. So much fun and no one fell (phew!)

Some pics of me!

This is the gang- Lex, Qianna, and Skyler.

We found this sculpture and decided to take artsy photos!

Auberge Internationale Le Tangon

What a day!! Another long drive but some of the most beautiful scenery. I’d put it in my top 3 favourite drives in Canada. At one point we crested a hill and Skyler and I both gasped- we didn’t realize how high up we were and we could see for miles down to the St Laurence (which looks like an ocean). Before we left we explored Baie-Comeau, found a geocache and danced on the rocks again. Now we are at the stunning Hostel Tangon in Sept- îles. I wish we were here for more than one night- it reminds me of Ireland hostels.

Auberge Internationale Le Tangon

It’s been a bit of a dramatic few days but that is life on the road!!

We stayed in a great place called L’Auberge Tangon (a hostel that really reminded me of Ireland!) and we wished we could have stayed longer... cut to hours later when, upon arrival at the airport, we found our flight had been cancelled due to weather! We got our wish!

So one more night in Sept Iles before heading to Blanc Sablon tonight.

This morning we headed to the airport to see if we could get some of our luggage on an earlier flight because they couldn’t guarantee that it would all fit on the later one. The lady at the desk asked if we were all new to Geordie (she sees the teams come through year after year), they put all our luggage on without charging us extra (which should have been a couple hundred dollars at least) and offered a parking spot in their reserved lot for while we are away. Go small towns!!!

After that we got breakfast and then Skyler, Qianna and I went to this sculpture garden that we had read about. We weren’t sure what to expect but what we found was beyond our wildest imagination!!

Lovely backyard.

Blanc-Sablon

Ok. Big update!!

We made it to Blanc Sablon and I have to say I have never been to a place like it. It was so beautiful. When we arrived the woman who was renting is the AirBnB met us at the airport along with the car rental guy and they took us around, stopped at the grocery store and then she took us to our house.

This was our little red house on the oceanfront. We had such a great time. Friday was crazy because we had to fit all 4 shows in one day which included driving 45 min to and from the first set. We went from 6:45 am-5pm!!!

Driving from one of the schools on Friday!

Like father, like daughter

This was on the rocks right behind our place.

Sea urchins

Some really cool seaweed.

We were staying in Brador

At the Brador Falls Geordie always carved their initials in the fence and then the company and the year (see below). So proud to carry on the tradition!

On Sunday we took a road trip to Labrador. I am so lucky with this job that I get to travel to some amazing places. This was the last part of the provinces that I had to visit. It is beautiful. I really felt an amazing draw to the land in Blanc Sablon. It is a beautiful place, the people are incredibly generous, but it is so rugged and I can’t imagine it is an easy life. We didn’t have cell service or internet while at the house and I relished it but the younger generation spent a lot of time trying to get any kind of signal from the one window upstairs.

This is one of the largest and oldest lighthouses on the east coast. It was stunning to go and explore

Such an amazing place and I’m so grateful we got to come here.

St. Augustine

After flying out from Blanc Sablon, we made our way to St. Augustine. What a culture shock. The airport is on the reserve and the water taxi to get across is a hovercraft!!! Another first for me- the cast have never taken a water taxi before. In the town most people get around by ATVs, the roads are tiny and there are no roads anywhere outside of town. We stayed in a nice hotel- they were really busy so Lex stayed at a house across town that they rented and they gave him an ATV to ride (stress for the Stage Manager but he made it safely).

The flights are so gorgeous. And they only last about 20 min!!

Coming into St. Augustine. You can just kind of see the town on the point.

Taxi!!

There’s the town. All of it! It is so tiny and hilly but everyone, once again was so generous. Trudy who runs the hotel came to pick us up at the docks and they transported us around.

Lovely sunset from the top of the hill.

These were some of the best audiences today. The kids were really on the ball and asked great questions.

After the show, EVERYONE went home for lunch. We were the only ones left in the school at all. So funny.

In the winter all the roads shut down and everyone along the coast travel by snowmobile. They put in ice roads so they go from community to community for hockey tournaments and things. Everyone has a skidoo- including Trudy’s 4 year old daughter. It’s just how they role!
