10-9-8-7-6-5-4...counting down to our next big adventure!
Two years ago we journeyed to Europe to pick up Vance’s new Volvo XC90 in Sweden, followed by a spectacular wedding in Scotland. We visited ten countries in twenty-three days. The trip became our whirlwind sampler tour of Europe...and it left us wanting for much more.
In four days we will embark on our next journey: \240Volvo...take two! I am trading in my little car (with only front wheel drive - not a brilliant plan where it snows in the winter!) and I am going back to a SUV...smaller than my previously loved Chevy TrailBlazer. We are going to pick up my Volvo XC40 in Gothenburg, Sweden on 10/11/2019! Sooo excited!!! Let me share how we are getting a new car with a 4% discount AND a free flight to Europe...
We are taking advantage of Volvo’s Overseas Delivery Program again. If you’ve never heard of it...be sure to check it out. We went to our local Volvo dealership and worked with our favorite sales person...Terril...she’s such a joy to work with. She helped us select my car — including AWD! — and off went the order...including about a 4% discount! Next, Volvo’s Corporate Travel office came into the picture. Ney helped us coordinate our flights...did I mention Volvo is paying for our Round Trip flights to Sweden?!?! Oh, yes...there is that! So a 4% discount on my car AND a free round trip flight for two to Europe! THEN they will pick us up at the airport and drive us to a lovely hotel for a remarkable dinner (courtesy of Volvo) AND a one night stay. THEN they will pick us up the next day at the hotel and drive us to meet our new car! We will have a fantastic Swedish lunch at the Volvo Factory (I’m picking the Swedish Meatballs with Lingonberry Jelly!) while we wait for them to bring our new XC40 around. They will take us through every detail of our new car and get us all loaded up to start our travels.
We would love to share our adventure with you...and hear if you have any insider tips! We will be exploring new locations, as well as revisiting some previous favorites that were crying for more time. We’ll see you in Europe!
3-2-1...and we’re off!
On board our SAS flight heading to Sweden (with a quick stop in Copenhagen) from San Francisco. And we were able to bid on upgrading our seats...and we won our bid! We are stretched out and ready to take off in minutes. Thank you, Volvo, for helping us continue to Live Our Adventure!
A quick visit to the SFO Museum before our flight.
Journaling his morning and watching the planes take off.
Vance loves his leg space!
We will be in the air for a little over ten hours. With an overnight flight, we will definitely enjoy being able to turn our seats into beds!
Thanks for joining us on our journey. We will see you soon!
Vance enjoyed a couple of movies as we were settling into our flight.
It was quite fun flying back over home, where our adventure had begun just that morning! But this time we were on one of the high in the sky planes we normally watch from our patio swing in the backyard. Switching back and forth between the map and the landscape view camera on the bottom of the plane was pretty cool.
SAS is currently serving their Autumn menu, featuring a tempting variety of foods with a focus on simple, natural, seasonal Scandinavian flavors and cooking.
Who knew that a 6’ 2” Scandinavian lad could sleep comfortably on an airplane?!?
We are twelve hours into our journey and resting up for our quick visit to Sweden! It’s now 23:30 PST and I’m drifting back to sleep. Sweet dreams everyone!
And Happy (almost) Birthday to Michael!!! I love you!
Happy Birthday, Michael!!! I hope you have a spectacular day! I love you!!!
Good Morning!!!
It feels pretty good to be arriving well rested! While others were still sleeping, I woke and freshened up.
Although all the window shades were still drawn, I peeked through the window in the bathroom and saw light clouds and lots of daylight. Upon returning to the cabin, the overhead lights began to slowly rouse my fellow travelers...first with a nice pink and purple tone, much like a soft sunrise...then gradually brightening to bring on the day.
A fabulous breakfast, with a hot cup of tea to prepare us for the next leg of travel.
Oops! I goofed...we will be nine hours ahead, not eight...I was remembering England and Scotland.
Two lovely dream board views...where else do we want to venture?!?
I almost see part of next year’s trip on this map...we will be embarking from Santiago for our Antarctica cruise in 2020!
Getting closer to landing in Copenhagen, Denmark. We will have a quick stop over here before we head on to Göteborg, Sweden. But don’t fret...we will be back in Copenhagen tomorrow night after we pick up our car!
Ready to start the day!
I love the cover for our menu on the flight. It’s beautiful artwork and it makes me excited to experience Fall in Europe!
See you again soon!
Safe and sound in Copenhagen...for an hour...my stamp makes it official!
(Look ~ MD ~ I got a stamp to commemorate your birthday!
We touched down safely in Göteborg a little before 16:00 (07:00 PST)...we left the house twenty hours ago! The flights were good, but now for the rest of the adventure! (We not only saw our bags being loaded on this last of three planes, but they were waiting for us at the luggage carousel like good traveling companions!
Layla met us at the airport (she’s with Volvo). She drove us to our hotel in a Volvo XC60 (the medium SUV - Vance has an XC90...the big kid - I’m getting my XC40 tomorrow...that’s the baby of the bunch).
Volvo is treating us to a wonderful night in the Clarion Post Hotel!
AND Volvo is treating us to this amazing meal! Again, you just may want to look into the Volvo Overseas Delivery Program!
I am in love with the flavors of Scandinavia in the Fall! This fish, with a decadent lobster sauce, was so creamy and flavorful. The pumpkin was done three different ways and it was delectable! Our server, Melina, said this has been her favorite dish to sample in a very long time! They get to sample the menus when they come out so they can recommend them to guests. She was spot on in her recommendation of this dish!
The dessert was amazing too! The chocolate hazelnut ice cream was insanely yummy and the main dessert had very fancy hints of a grown up PB&J!
We were talking with Melina, who is so completely lovely, about our last visit two years ago. I told her I remember how impressed I was with the flavors in every bite I took. Everything presents so well and blends beautifully! This second visit was no exception ~ simply delicious!
And, oh my goodness...the ladies in Sweden are simply beautiful! From the airport to the hotel, and the shops and restaurant...they are glowing. It’s such a beautiful thing to see so many young women who are wearing barely any makeup - if any, and their skin just glows! The hair styles are very natural and their clothes are so simple and classic. And, yes, most of them are various shades of blonde!
In Sweden, most people who work in the service industry are payed quite well. Tipping is not expected or customary, but it is not concidered rude to tip either.
All in all...dinner tonight was underbar (Swedish for wonderful)!!!
Hello - Hej (pronounces like hey)
Thank you - Tack (sounds like talk)
Please - Snälla du
Good night for us...have a great day for you!
