Twin Falls

We meet Ruth - coming from Salt Lake - in Twin Falls. \240Crossing the Snake River always gets an "Ah!". \240This is the Southern view...

...and this is the view North.

2
Hagerman

Dinner on the back deck of the House of Kris. \240She made us a good old fashioned cowgirl meal. \240We could hear a kestrel falcon calling, and later a band of coyotes. \240She has a fantastic view over the Hagerman bluffs. \240We are fortunate to have good friends. 😌

Jim and Zip. \240Zip is rehabing from a leg injury and has to stay in the barn.

This is Clark the goat and his noisy neighbors, four geese and a duck, Marcus.

Sunset over the bluffs. \240The moon is waning full, and the stars are bright.

Hagerman

Ruth and Kris give us our 'hippie' shirts for our ramblin' journey.

4
Devils Wash Bowl

The Malad River, which the Jim Clark family has seen multiple times, is different from this day forward; \240Kris pointed out the devil in the rocks.

The Malad River moving down the canyon, toward the Snake River.

Here, you can see the Malad River Bridge, the river dropping right under the bridge, and the winding verdant valley below. \240Today, we learned about a unique Idahoan plant called Cow Pie Buckwheat.

At the bridge.🙃

Hagerman

This old truck, tethered to the boulder with a massive chain, has been on this corner - exactly like this - since Kris has lived in Hagerman.

Jim, hanging with Metal Cowboy, his trusty steed, and the sheep they are moving.

7
Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument, Visitor's Center

The dark line across the landscape is the Old Oregon Trail. \240The emigrants skirted the Snake River by moving along the basalt bluffs. \240

The Snake River below.

8
Buhl

Kris took us to the bluffs above Hagerman, where her Dad used to farm sugar beets - a couple thousand acres. \240The fields are now occupied with windmills. \240We got to walk right up to the windmill. \240Pretty amazing.

You can't see Hagerman, because it is in the valley, but you can see the windmills from the Anderson properties.

Blue Heart Springs

Ruth and Kris took us kayaking on the Snake River. \240We entered at Banbury Hot Springs, in search of the Blue Heart Cove.

The water was calm but swift. \240The landscape: outstanding.

We get to see many of the natural springs running out of the mesa rocks.

Eagles, osprey, and turkey vultures were soaring overhead. \240There were few vessels on the river when we started. \240By the time we started back to the launch site, we saw multiple groups of kayakers out on the river.

We reach the natural spring called Blue Heart. \240It is an amazing color and so cold to the touch. \240It bubbles up out of the bottom of the river.

We hung around in the cove for a while, just enjoying the moment.

A quick lunch, prepared by Kris and Ruth (and before others started to join us), and we were off.

Kris is a great guide, and pointed out a lot of the canyon features. \240We had a great time!

12
Ritter Island State Park

Kris and Ruth, with Skye and Meg, took us on a short hike on Ritter Island. \240The water just streams out of the lava rock.

Beautiful falls cascading down the mountainside. \240As you near the top, you can see it literally bubbling up from the rocks.

It is a hot day, and the boys need some relief, so Jim carried them part way down the path.

The area is beautiful and we had a great time.

13
Rattlesnake Pass

We saw this dust devil churning on our way to Salt Lake. \240It was crazy big!
