One of the places we did want to make sure we passed was the Royal Palace of Madrid. We didn’t wait in line to walk into the courtyard but there didn’t seem like much was going on inside so we took a quick photo and moved on to the next.
Right beside the palace was a pretty large cathedral, Catedral de la Almudena. It was stunning on the outside and inside! Again the doors were open but when Emma and I entered there was a mass happening with a priest preparing communion. There was also a crypt attached, so we made a small donation and explored that as well. Quite the fancy stone hallways to be buried in!
On the way back to the hotel we went through a couple parks and it’s interesting to see how they’re used differently than at home. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of ‘recreation centres’ and since people have such small flats the parks are the only place to get some time in greenery. There were a few sport classes happening in little areas of the parks, seemingly organized but not necessarily in a space dedicated to whatever activity it was. The best activity we say people practicing? Bull fighting!
