Ready, set, wait I forgot my favorite socks go back! Lol! (Says Jean as we are leaving the driveway for JFK)

Leaving for Spain today! We are grateful we are able to adventure out in these less then optimal times. We have the items we need and weight of our backpacks just right…We have added regular long walks with our packs on to our weekly regimen at home. \240

Ready,set , we are off!

Thank you to our family and friends for listening to our endless dreams and prepping stories.

We set off with thanks to God, asking Him to be close by, guiding us, protecting us, and helping us share His love as we hike along the English Way Camino trail.

We arrived at JFK 3.5 hours early. Herb would be proud. Lol! Enjoying some dinner and IPA’s.

Day 3: All around Ferrol

Breakfast at hotel~ croissants, cafe con leche, fresh OJ.

Did some laundry

The street outside hotel.

Side pic of hotel.

We saw a yucca tree? !

Statue tribute to Jorge Juan, arichectural designer of “chocolate bar grid” of a section of the city as well as many beautiful buildings.

Pano from above a portion of the city and harbor.

Food market showing the yummy jahmon. It’s what’s for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and or little sandwiches called pinchers.

Lunch: We found grilled fresh veggies.

More of lunch that sufficed for dinner too. So good! Ham croquets, salad and the grilled veggies.

I thought his door knocker was cool!

So many little things in the city have a beauty to them.

The wedding party just left the church. Beautiful spot.

Here I am doing stretches for the old arthritic back. My physical therapist from the Green Room in Troy would be proud of me.

No words for this pic, just lol!

Tomorrow we head out of town via the Camino trail, the Way of St James. Over the next 6 days we will walk thru many towns, cities, and forests on the way to Santiago.

Goodnight!

Rectoral de Cines

This was one of the trail signs once we got out puffy the city, Miño.

We took extra breaks today, hence extra selfies.

This is what’s called trail angels offerings. Juice, water, soda and beer. Fresh sandwiches and croissants of course. Also had chairs and tables. They provided an offering box and a spot to write in their journal. This makes a pilgrim feel very welcome!

There are many fountains like this along the way.

Biggest city we passed through today-Betanzos. Shortly after we entered the city a \240gentleman who spoke english stopped us to chat with him.

After shopping at the Farmers market for some figs we sat down for refreshments. (Which really helped with the knee pain, aching hips, and one big blister I have) Oy!

We passed beautiful churches. I love hearing the bells ring from a far!

Look at the giant bell

The hotel was the rectory at one point. This is the front door.

Some of the veggies were from the garden.

Food was delish.

Goodnight!

4th day of walking starting off chi

Restaurante Hotel Canaima

Day 4!! We had about 10 miles to do. That seems like my mental and physical limit. Feeling good today. Weather is a little chilly to start.

These markers are helpful in finding our way as well as to help counting \240up the kilometers. Many times a stone or shell is left on top.

This group of kids is from Poland. They are all 4th year medical students. Fortunately for us they spoke English and we walked with them for a couple hours. Our walk was mostly uphill the whole time, and the convo passed the time nicely. They are all our Beccas age, world travelers, and all around nice people.

This lady treats her patrons well. When we were watching Effren Gonzalez, Camino Vlogger, in preparation for walking the Englis Way, he videoed her cafe/bar. She brings out stools and makes you put your feet up while having your cafe con leche, vino tinto, or cervasa. She asked us to take pictures with her. Very sweet. And we told her we have seen her on Effrens Vlog. She had an English speaking friend come to find out how she can find that Vlog with her in it. (YouTube)

We pass a lot of arbors with grapes. Bit today we see the kiwis on this one. Wonder why they often give kiwis with breakfast. They are in season here?!

And that’s all I got. We finished walking quite early today. There is nothing to do around us so we have been resting and reading and planning for tomorrow!

Missing everyone at home and facetimed with the kids and dogs today too. 💕

Albergue Camiño Real (Sigüeiro - Oroso)

Another day begins on the Camino. My feet, knees , shins, and hips are in shock. Don’t tell them we have 11 miles to go. Lol!

At a trail head. Forest trails are the best until you need another cafe con leche. Then you get off trail into a town/ village/city.

On the wooded trail we peeked thru to see this church. I noticed it had 2 bells. Wowzer. Then we saw an opening to the field and got closer. It’s actually a 3 bell church. Imaging that call to worship each day/week. Just beautiful!

3 bells and full moon .

There is corn growing everywhere. And these plants too. Not sure what they are.

Another two beller.

Corn

This is a medieval days bridge according to our Camino app.

Map of the Way.

I liked this one.

Arrived into Sigüeiro. Had some dinner. Stopped at this grocery for fruit and other snack age at the Albergue Sigüeiro Orso. (My first Albergueexoerience)

This a bridge in a local park in town. We walked after dinner to a place with a creek and bench to relax.

Gotta get our bags ready for pick up tomorrow and stretch out. Tomorrow is last day on the Camino. Supposed to rain all day.should be a trip!

LAST DAY WALKING THE CAMINO FROM FERROL TO SANTIAGO!

B

On our way, trying to beat the rain. Bumped into this chick. Never know what the Camino will have.

This is \240storage for corn. I guess it was a traditional thing to dry corn for tortilla and etc.

This is a MIL apt. JK . Who knows why there is a brick fortress on top of the barn.

Ancient. Traditional.

Just for corn?

Fall foliage on the trail

We guessed \240we were approaching the enchanted forest.

Walking with Quasi Motto the hunch back, Lol!

Seriously,Chris carried our day pack with no complaints. No matter how many waters, beer, fruit, etc I’d stuff in it! He’s my hero.

I told you there was an enchanted forest!

Beautiful open fields

Enjoying the open places b4 the city.

Who stores there corn out front? Hmmm

Stopped for cafe con leche for me which turned into a vino stop. With ensalda and tortilla too. We are 1 mike away from Santiago now.

This guys loves some Napoleon de chocolate I swear he has hollow legs.

Beautiful Old buildings

And tada! Breath taking Santiago de Compestela! Hundreds of pilgrims celebrating their walk on The Way. We walked 80ish miles!

Taking pics

Our room in Satiago has a sun porch.

So glad to have toes out of boots! I wrapped sheeps wool around each of my toes after I got the first blister. And covered my feet with Vaseline each AM too. Ugh

At dinner

This here is GALACIAN soup. So good!

This here is a guy who got cheeky when I asked him to let me take a pic of wine I liked.

On the tram

Okay, we did a touristy thing. Anything to sit down! Sorry I cannot remember names of places they took us.

Back to the plaza

Santiago

Wowowowow!

We stood on line to go to7:30 mass but there was a cut off (stupid Covid) so we could not attend mass. But doors were open to the area were St James remains are entombed and peeks of the church could be seen.

Walking the city for crossaints again.

Pictures got out of order and didn’t pick up the video of entering the plaza. Beautiful bag pipes playing. Then people laughing, crying, hugging, and cheering. This really was an experience to treasure.

Thanks for “listening”

What! We mostly beat the rain!
