Up for a petite dejeuner (breakfast) of coffee, baguette with butter and jam, and orange juice. \240Sebastian packed me a lunch and presented me with a jar of his honey. \240Under the circumstances, the extra weight was worh it. \240A handshake and awkward kiss, kiss on the cheek, and we said au revoir.
Cool and rainy. \240Many villages have a larger-than-life crucifix on the outskirts of town. And there are churche steeples punctuating the horizon, most with a “roster” atop, like a wind vein. Along the way a DAF semi swooshed by - the truck made by PACCAR where Liam is working this summer in Belview. \240Lunch - thanks Sabastine.
Bam! Then came the Somme Valley and the carnage of WW1. \240Very sombering. \240In Peronne there is a remarkable museum and even an Otto Dix presentation. \240 Whew!
Stopped for a beer to await the Information office to open. \240The waiter, a young man with bleached blond hair, spoke English very well. \240Wow, how did you learn to speak so well? \240He says: “ I’m a gamer.” \240Say no more (so there is some upside benefits to gaming, ummm).😀
Sebastian and Betty’s friend gave me a ride to the locale “super” market so I could buy provisions for tomorrow. Roselle Nathalie appt 2. \24027b rue Saint sauveur 80200 peronne
Staying in a Parish guesthouse for Pilgrims. I’m the sole guest and it was great. \240Cooked up \240my own dinner and made bread. \240The priest was engaging and unusually curious about the evangelicals and President Biden. \240 . \240Samuel Leyronnas 16 rue St Jean 80200 Peronne samuel.leyronnas@gmail.com
Another great day, but the Somme casualties were sombering!!
