First stop on the 2019 road trip! Elph picked up mustard and mayo from the Roy Roger's open bar. You really have to hear her say it to understand why this memory is worth noting.
Scored a faded Sinclair dinosaur Christmas air freshener tucked away on a dusty gas station shelf, possibly from the dinosaur age.
We made it to our first official stop for sleep at the Springhill Suites Oklahoma City Quail Springs.
Not to waste all our time indoors, we picked an area with a body of water that looked like a oark. It turned out to be a housing development, but it led us to this random cairn city. We sat on a bench near an artificial lake and saw a tree full of owls. At one point we we saw at least three owls in flight all at once! We were later told by a Native that this was a good omen.
A fun stop at the Cherokee Trading Post. I bought an amazing pair of moccasin booties that I wore traveling in Greece later that summer.
Durango, CO
A delicious feast at Padilla's Mexican Kitchen was our one of our last moments with Jennifer on the trip.
American Quarter Horse Association Hall of Fame & Museum sculpture garden. I wanted to take pictures of Simon for my mother. Instead, I mostly remember this as the place where we started acquiring pets on the road trip.
The Dash for Cash statue--there's a kitten under those bushes around the outside, and they are scratchy af.
Playing with Dash the kitten while Elph shops at the pet store for emergency kitty supplies.
And then there were four in the car. \240Introducing (Flap)Jack found sniffing around the back of an IHOP for food.
By this time we have already visited the vet to check for an identifying microchip. No chip.
He's wearing a rusted chain that has snapped.
Cape Girardeau, Missouri, aka a cute \240place I never would have heard of were if we didn't plan our stops around places I could use my Marriott points. (Their Courtyard location was one of my favorite Marriotts to date.)
Time to hit the trails with Dash and Jack. Simon and the turtle are green with envy about these travel intruders so they stay behind.
Dash and Jack living it up in Berea, Kentucky.
Well, maybe not Jack who is probably trying to figure out how he got himself into this mess.
Dash, however, has readily adapted to his new life on the road.
Sleepy beagle in the back seat with sleepy Simon in a cargo net.
My first stop at a Waffle House! Had to get my waffle to go because Elph, Jack, and Dash were all waiting in the car.
