Well here we go! 11 capitals left as I write this and God willing, we’ll get three down in the next 10 days!
We started off a little late yesterday, and by “a little,” I mean 2 hours. Mike had last minute work to do and I maybe wasn’t quite as prepared as I thought I was ;)
So at 3:30, we hit the road and headed to Roanoke, VA in our new swagger wagon. (RIP old van. She started smoking, so we knew it was time). \240
Stayed in the Hampton Inn and Suites, nothing too fancy, but it did the trick. Oh and by the way, it’s a really good thing that our eldest is a boy who literally couldn’t care less about his appearance (he wears black slipper socks with tennis shoes) because it buys us some time. In a of couple years, these hotel bathrooms are either going to be VERY cramped or we will need to build two rooms into the budget!
Not much to tell so far except for what Rach called “The Car seat Fiasco.” \240She’s at the point where she’s done with her car seat, but we’re paranoid parents. She’s technically 2 inches too short to be in a regular seatbelt, but her seat is very restrictive and tight on her hips which we found out at 11pm last night when she was tired of driving and cranky . So this morning, two trips to the nearby Target later, she is now sitting on a folded towel to give her the extra height that she needs. Done.
We’re headed to Marshall, VA for the the much anticipated part of the trip to Aunt Alix (Mike’s sister) and Uncle Sean’s farm where they will see their cousins and get a taste of farm life (which by the way they are FAR too lazy for!).
Stay tuned!
P.S. Just saw an Amish cart and horse crossing the interstate. Now THAT’S something you don’t see everyday!
What an amazing time!! The kids had so much fun with their cousins! Elliot is about to be 9 and Georgia Mae is about to be 7 in a few days. They loved showing my kids all the cool things they have on their property. Hammocks, creeks, honey suckle, animal remains...all kinds of fun stuff!!!
We went into the cute town near them and had an awesome meal at a double decker food truck and listened to a no-so-good band. Then we headed back to Alix and Sean’s house where we went out on their property and build a fire and roasted marshmallows. The children burned everything in sight of course. Then it was showers, nail painting and bed time.
This morning, we got an early start, had an apple pie in celebration of Maddie and Georgia’s birthdays, and now we’re back on the road headed to lunch in Scranton. Zach has a special request to see where some of the scenes of The Office were filmed and to eat lunch at one of the restaurants on the show.
Tummies are full from Cooper’s Seafood in Scranton, PA. Zach had a special request to go to this restaurant because it was on The Office. We obliged :) It was a really fun restaurant! Food was pretty good, and the kids loved the gift shop :)
On to Providence, Rhode Island!
