Day 0
Jamie and I have decided to do a little daily activity while we are on our road trip to write a journal for each day to reflect and share with you all.
The preperation has gone well to begin our journey for what was meant to be a departure of 4am, until Jamie realised he did not account for the fact that NSW was in daylight savings and we were going to arrive an hour later than we wanted to. So leaving slightly earlier to try compensate for that.
I will be sharing photos, locations and a short write up of the days events. Jamie will likely add a little bit at the end about his thoughts. Been over a decade since we have left SE QLD so we are very excited.
Jamies thoughts : Daylight savings is stupid.
Day 1
We left at 3:31am QLD time for our drive to Newcastle. Overall a pretty uneventful first 4 hours for our first stop at Coffs Harbour for some breakfast.
Our lunch stop was at Queen Elizabeth Park where we had some pre prepared sandwiches and drinks by the water.
Queen Elizabeth Park Taree
Our last two or so hours to Newcastle had some pretty wild rain but made it safely to our destination. We checked in at our hotel and then went for a nice walk along the Newcastle Harbour. Honestly this place is amazing would have been even better if the weather was a little nicer.
On our walk along the Newcastle Harbour.
Lastly we had a wonderful dinner at the hotel and some ice cream from across the street and getting ready to continue our trip to Canberra tomorrow.
Jamies thoughts: Discovered a new car brand today. There was two dealerships at Taree for this new brand which I assume is pronounced Hold-en. \240 \240 Hopefully this new brand will have a bright future.
Day 2
After a nice evening in Newcastle we continued our drive along the Pacific Highway towards Sydney. Mostly uneventful however there was some nice scenery north of Sydney.
We made it to our first stop at the Sydney Opera House where we took some photos and had lunch at Wahlburgers.
Sydney was a great stop
Not long after lunch we set off again for another few hours in the car heading south to our next stop in Goulburn were we stopped at The Big Merino.
After a quick stop at The Big Merino we set off on our final hour of driving and finally made it to Canberra where we met up with family for a nice dinner and finally made it to bed at 10PM. Pretty busy but amazing few days so far.
Jamies thoughts: While I certainly appreciate the amazing attention to detail when The Big Merino was built, I dont think the ballsack was necessary.
Day 3
Our day in Canberra was looking like it was going to be mostly ruined by weather however we made the most of it. Unfortunately even though we had so far travelled 1200km we were yet to see any blue sky the entire trip so far.
We first set off to try get some photos at the Mount Ainslie lookout which has some amazing views looking down to Parliment House however the weather did not play nice and all we could see was fog and rain. So we decided we would come back later and attempt to go to the war memorial. Unfortunately we did not plan ahead for this and you now require to book a session for the war memorial and it was booked out for the day, Jamie was a little dissapointed by this.
So our next attempt at an activity was to go to Parliment House. We managed to find the last carpark a few hundred metres away from parliment house and at least got some decent photos and even got to sit in and watch the house of representatives where they were discussing a bill about increasing manufacturing in Australia. The kids found it kinda boring but they were at least engaged and very respectful.
We even got to go to the roof of Parliment House to get some photos and it has a great view.
When we were on the roof of Parliment House we realised that it was the first time in 3 days we had seen blue sky so it was our chance to go try the Mount Ainslie Lookout again which did not disappoint.
After that we had lunch at a nice little cafe called the Gold Creek Cafe which Jamie believes has the best thickshake in hes had so far. Then it was off to the National Dinosaur Museum.
After 3 pretty full on days we wanted a few hours of rest for a nice recovery before we are on a plane to Melbourne tomorrow.
Jamies Thoughts: Disappointed we missed seeing the PM speak at Parliment house by a few minutes but also, disappointed that so few polititians were actually there.
@#Mandajaynexo Daylight savings is stupid hahahaa
