We decided to spend Thanksgiving out of town again this year and take a much needed break from the craziness of work, school, activities, and holiday hustle and bustle.
We began our adventure to Tofino Wednesday evening via Vancouver spending one night at the airport. Thurs afternoon we flew on Pacific Coastal Air to the island, rented a car and drove to the Wickaninnish Inn. We arrived around 4, checked in, and got settled. It was a bit rainy upon arrival but the hotel was just as beautiful as we remembered from our honeymoon and 5 year anniversary. Taking Bryce there 15 years later was a blessing. We dined at the Long Beach Lodge that night and went to bed early.
Friday we awoke early for our day at Hot Springs Cove. We boated up (via the ‘Miss Chief’) on the inside canal seeing otters, a seal, eagles and even a late straggling whale! The ride was beautiful despite the misty rain. We hiked the 30 min to the hot springs, changed and took a dip. We were even greeted later by some wild dogs from the First Nations village nearby. As the clouds parted and sun shined upon us, we departed the dock via seaplane at 1:30 and headed back to town. \240It was great to visit again, ride the same boats and planes we did before, and share the springs with Bryce. He loved it.
Bryce took a nice warm bath in the big tub in our room and relaxed for the rest of the day. That night we had an amazing dinner at the Pointe restaurant complete with a customized menu to celebrate our ‘belated’ anniversary. Bryce had the Dungeness crab - Yumm!
Saturday the rain returned but it was still absolutely beautiful and peaceful at the Wick. We scrambled a bit in the am making some last minute travel plan modifications to get home on Sunday due to a flight time change—thanks Pacific Coastal. 🙄 After that was settled, Bryce and I went on the hotel scavenger hunt, which was fun and included another eagle sighting, while Daddy ran. Then we all went downtown, visited Roy Henry Vickers gallery, and had some beers at Tofino Brewing. It’s a nice new addition to town. Dinner was at Tough City Sushi before returning to the inn.
Sunday we packed up, grabbed a quick breakfast in the Pointe restaurant and then hit the road for the 3 hour drive to Nanaimo— thanks Pacific Coastal🙄. It’s a lovely drive but quite windy so we did need to pull over once as Bryce was car sick. 😔 We turned in the car in town and shuttled to Helijet to get our next ride. Yes, a helicopter! A quick 18 min trip landed us in downtown Vancouver and then a cab took us to the airport. It felt like a bit of planes, trains, and automobiles but it was still successful.
We felt completely blessed and fortunate to return once again to the Wick, show Bryce the beautiful west coast of BC, and make new family memories in the place where Todd and I started our married life together 15 years ago.
