Kannapolis Nc

In October, Curt asked if I could take two weeks vacation. I looked at him like he was crazy because I’ve never taken two weeks off at one time in 29 years. I hesitantly asked why and he said he wanted to take an RV trip out West.

That simple question started the ball rolling. Now, here we are on our way out West to see The Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Glacier National Park, Mount Rushmore and everything in between.

Our friends, John and Denise Pride are our traveling companions which should make for an awesome adventure! Stay tuned!

Creekwood Farm RV Park

Day 1:

We are on the way! We had an easy drive today to meet up with John and Denise. They were driving up from the Atlanta area, so we chose the beautiful Maggie Valley NC area.

Creekwood Farm RV Park is a quaint park that is very quiet. It’s beside Pride RV Park and Resort where we’ve stayed before and both are nice and family/pet friendly.

4204 Main Street Brewing Co. Restaurant, Patio, and Beer Garden

Day 2:

I’ve decided that people should have to go to drivers education every ten years or so…. Because we have lost our ever-lovin’ minds! There seems to be the aggressive drivers that don’t care who they wreck or the oblivious ones that can’t seem to flow with everyone else.

Anyhoo….we fueled up and left Maggie Valley,NC in the fog, made it thru TN (who needs some major road repairs) and just crossed into KY (who could also use new roads) \240headed to our pit stop for the evening in St. Louis,MO. 238 miles to go!

🎵they see me ‘rollin🎶 😄

Lots of \240🎶 wide open spaces 🎵 and rows of perfectly straight crops.

Stopped for the night just outside of St. Louis at our Harvest Host in Belleville, IL, 4204 Main Street Brewing Company. Grabbed dinner at their restaurant and drove across the bridge into St. Louis to see The Gateway Arch. Unfortunately we arrived just before they shut the park down for the evening, but it was still pretty cool.

Check out the nod to the arch by McD’s.

560 miles down and Day 2 = ✔️

4
Mac's Creek Winery & Vineyards

Day 3:

Well, the old saying is “When it rains, it pours” and that’s a true statement. Started out ok, crossing over into MO.

A few hours in it started raining and we had \240to pull over for a squeaky wiper blade - which was a minor fix.

We get back on the road when a monsoon hits - great timing on the repair, right? ….and then…kablamm….our wipers disappear from site and the drivers side one is on the left side of the coach…not a good sign. So, we pull over again, barely able to see and John and Curt get out to brave the storm to make a repair. Gotta love two guys that can fix or McGyver just about anything! ❤️

The monsoons continued most of the day. Intermittent issues with both RV’s, but all-in-all just something to remember about the adventure.

I even drove the coach a little….nerve-wracking would be an understatement 😳!

Ended our day later than expected at our Harvest Host, Mac’s Creek Winery & Vineyards in Lexington, NE. If you have an RV/Camper - check out the Harvest Host Program, it’s worth it.

621 more miles down and Day 3 = ✔️

5
The Longhorn Ranch Lodge & RV Resort

Day 4:

Started the day with a wonderful breakfast and visit with the Owner and son of our Harvest Host in Nebraska.

Got on the road and headed to Wyoming.

Yep….more ☔️

Welcome to Wyoming!

Took a pit stop in Cheyenne, WY

Saw some cool wind turbine farms between Cheyenne and Laramie.

Saw a few mule deer blending into the scenery.

Rain, rain, go away!!

Made it to our final destination for the next few days.

Welcome to Dubois, WY and The Longhorn Ranch Lodge & RV Resort.

…and the problems continue…but it’s nothing these two can’t fix! Don’t mind the dude in the back, not only did we have a slide motor go out…but we had no water valve handle when we got to our site…so that’s getting fixed by the facility tomorrow. 🤷🏼‍♀️

624 more miles in the books and Day 4 = ✔️

6
Jackson

We decided that most of today would be a rest day. Driving for three solid days is surprisingly mentally and physically exhausting. So, we caught up on work (I know, it’s a vacation - but it’s better to work a little along the way than come home to a million emails), laundry and fixing problems like the Wifi not working (which is a non-negotiable for me), fixing a chipped windshield, fixing temperamental entry steps and other fun little projects.

We went to the Cowboy Cafe for lunch.

Walked around the campground, \240enjoyed the views and the peaceful environment. It’s a shame our lives get so busy that we don’t take time to just breathe and relax.

Then, late in the day, decided to take a drive to Jackson Hole for dinner, wildlife and scenery.

7
Grand Teton National Park

Day 5:

Back to The Grand Tetons - but through the National Park today.

Yes, it was cold and windy and snowy in higher elevations…but further down was sunny and high 60’s.

Went through Moran Junction to Jackson Lake Junction to see Jackson Lake.

Continued up to Coulter Bay.

Back down to Jenny Lake.

Headed south again toward Jackson Hole and ran across a little fox. 🦊

Continued on to Jackson Hole for lunch and errands.

Jackson Hole Antler Arch

Curt chatted with a fellow pilot 😉.

Then headed back to Dubois.

Ran across grazing Bison. 🦬

Found a mama bear with two little Cubs.

You can see one little fella looking at us from the camouflage of his mama’s backside. 🐻

Photos don’t even come close to capturing the beauty of this area. If you have a bucket list, this is definitely a trip to add to it.

8
Yellowstone National Park

Day 6:

Yellowstone National Park day!

Mama Bear and babies were out again this morning. I’ve named her Matilda.

Small black bear to the right of the trees.

First stop was Old Faithful and the many smaller geysers.

Old Faithful- you’ll have to visit my Facebook page to see the video.

Saw a few 🦬

Stopped at the Grand Prismatic Spring.

Then, ran into a traffic jam due to a random Bison drive.

This was an \240incredible experience. They came right up both sides of the jeep. We could have reached out and touched them.

Had a few stragglers with a baby. You’ll have to see my Facebook page for that video.

On our way home, we met Matilda and her cubs again.

Today was a good day! We did the lower loop and tomorrow we relocate to Idaho just outside the northern part of Yellowstone to do the upper loop.

Day 6 = ✔️

9
West Yellowstone

Day 7:

Well, this day has not gone as planned. We repositioned to the west side of Yellowstone. We saw a few deer and Matilda and her Cubs again this morning.

Then headed to the other side of Yellowstone.

Started spitting a little flurries and a 🌈 appeared over the highway. Too bad the camera can’t really capture it.

Stopped at Old Faithful again….yes…it was cold!

Ran across more 🦬

In and out of snow flurries until we hit the town of West Yellowstone and then it started to get real.

Crossed over into Idaho just before we got to our campground.

As of right this second, we’ve been sitting for about an hour and a half on the highway due to a five car pileup. ❄️❄️❄️❄️…maybe we will jump out and build a ☃️ while we wait. When life gives you 🍋-you make lemonade, right?!

Well, five and a half \240hours later…we made it safe and sound.

10
Yellowstone RV Park at Mack's Inn

Day 8::

Woke up to clear skies! Back to Yellowstone. Did most of the upper loop - half was still closed for the season.

Gibbon Falls

Artists’ Paintpot Trail

More 🦬

Grand Canyon of Yellowstone again.

More 🦬

Saw a few elk in the trees.

…and we are done with Yellowstone and on to Glacier National Park in the morning. 🏔

11
Mountain Meadow RV Park

Day 9:

Well, more snow…

…but on to Galcier we go!

Arrived at Glacier National Park late this afternoon to rain and low clouds.

That water is the prettiest blue-green that the camera cannot capture. 🤞🏻 for better weather tomorrow.

12
Yellowstone River Campground

Day 10:

Glacier National Park was a bit of a bust. Pouring rain and mostly closed roads made it not as enjoyable as it could have been, but we saw some powerful waterfalls. The water is the prettiest shade of aqua that the camera cannot fully capture.

With the rain predicted to continue most of the week, we packed up and headed to Billings, MT a few days early.

13
Yellowstone River Campground

Day 11:

Today was a work day for the guys making repairs and fixing stuff. Tomorrow is supposed to ☔️ again…so had to get these repairs in today. Super nice campground we are in. Very quiet and peaceful and very well maintained. Tomorrow, we find inside things to do…maybe in Cody.

14
Billings

Day 12:

Started out at Pictograph Cave State Park.

Then drove down to the Little Bighorn National Battlefield Monument. Didn’t stay long as it was pouring 🌧 ☔️ again!

Never made it to Cody, but on to Sheridan and Mt. Rushmore tomorrow.

15
Mount Rushmore KOA Resort at Palmer Gulch Resort

Day 13:

Packed up and headed to South Dakota. Stopped in Sheridan, WY to meet one of Curt’s mentors and previous boss, Ray Usher.

Traveled on to Devil’s Tower National Monument.

Then continued on to the Mt. Rushmore area…in the fog, drizzle and cold. 😔🤷🏼‍♀️ This was our last little snippet of sunshine…a few snaps of wildlife through the Black Hills National Forest.

16
Mount Rushmore National Memorial

Day 14:

PTL - the ☀️ finally decided to appear! Started at Mt. Rushmore.

Pride for President-2028 😆

Then drove over to Crazy Horse.

Back to the campground where I met this beauty.

Decided to go into the town of Custer for dinner and have a quiet last evening with a fire and a movie.

Last night together as traveling companions. We had fun and enjoyed spending time together and already planning where to meet up next. 🔥

17
Grain Valley

Day 15:

Now for the long trek home. The deer came to say goodbye…

Made a pit stop just outside of Wall, SD to see the Minuteman Missile National Historic site. We passed quite a few active missile silos as we were leaving Glacier headed to Billings. It was interesting to walk through and see what they are all about.

Next pit stop was in Chamberlin, SD to see Dignity of Earth and Sky. She honors the Native Nations of the Great Plains.

NC needs to step up their bridge and state entry appearances. Some of these states do a fantastic job with their artwork - although I think this was supposed to be a ship.

Finally got to our stop for the evening, only to find someone else in our reserved spot. 😡 Thank you Walmart for being close by and allowing RV’s to overnight in your parking lot!

18
DelMonaco Winery & Vineyards

Day 16:

Up bright and early to continue east!

Four states later, we stop for the evening in Baxter, TN at our Harvest Host, Del Monaco Winery & Vineyards. Beautiful place in the Tennessee country. Just six more hours to home and the pups! As Scarlett says,”…tomorrow is another day!”….tonight, we sleep.

19
Kannapolis

Day 17:

First and foremost:

Next:

I see you, NC mountains 💗…

👠👠There’s no place like home👠👠

This crew was very happy to see us🐾❤️

Especially this little dude!

5261.2 Miles round trip, not counting the miles we put on the jeep traveling to different sites. We had a great time and loved every minute spent with John and Denise. We already have our next adventure planned! 😁…..but, there’s no place like home in the Carolinas! 💙
